Sara Foster Called Her Date With George Clooney “Depressing” in Candid Reveal: “He Is So Old”

Actress Sara Foster recently revealed a memorable – and not-so-great – dating experience. On her podcast, ‘The World’s First Podcast’ (co-hosted with her sister Erin), she shared that she once went on a date set up with George Clooney, and it didn’t go well.

Sara recently shared a story about a date she had with George Clooney around 30 years ago. It was set up by her friends Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, and she didn’t seem impressed. “It was just… really boring,” she admitted on a podcast, adding, “I had to be honest.”

Sara, who is now 44, said the age gap with George Clooney was immediately noticeable and made her feel uneasy. She recalled thinking he seemed much older at the time, and she wasn’t interested. “It was a definite no,” she explained, adding, “I remember thinking, ‘He’s so old!’” The fact that they all went on the date together – the four of them – made the situation even more awkward. “I’m sure George Clooney is a lovely person,” she said, “but I just remember sitting there feeling like I was going to be incredibly bored.”

She explained she was already feeling down after a recent breakup, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. She described one person she met as seeming very old, adding, “It was just depressing, I felt so down.”

I was really surprised to hear that Crawford and Gerber actually thought Clooney and I would be a good match! Even back then, he was so much older – he’s 64 now – and it just felt…off to me. It actually made me realize why I’ve never been able to wrap my head around those big age-gap relationships. Like, I just don’t get how a young woman, say 19, could be interested in a man who’s 40. It always struck me as really strange.

She also hinted that George Clooney probably wasn’t interested in the date either. According to Sara, he didn’t ask to be set up with her – it seemed like their mutual friends, Crawford and Gerber, were the ones who’d pushed for it. She even admitted to crying about her ex-boyfriend during the date, joking that Clooney probably thought she was a mess.

Sara Foster has been in several well-known relationships throughout her life. She previously engaged with actor Ashley Hamilton and also dated Benicio del Toro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and David Spade. In 2006, she started a lasting relationship with tennis player Tommy Haas. They have two daughters together, but announced they were separating in August 2024 after 18 years of marriage.
