THE DREADFUL Trailer Has Jon Snow and Sansa Stark as Lovers

I just finished watching this really interesting film by Natasha Kermani. It centers around Anne, a woman struggling in the English countryside while her husband is away fighting in the war, and she’s living with her very controlling mother-in-law. Then, a man from her past, played by Harington, shows up with terrible news – her husband has been killed in battle. There’s definitely a connection between Anne and this man, and they’re clearly drawn to each other, but Anne feels obligated to stay loyal to her husband’s memory, especially with her mother-in-law constantly pushing religious expectations.

This mother-in-law is quickly revealed to be ruthless – she’ll steal from or even kill anyone if it suits her, and she expertly manipulates Anne into becoming an accomplice. With murder, chaos, scandalous romance, sword fights, and a distinctive regional accent, this story seems tailor-made for fans of Game of Thrones.

Watching Harington and Turner share intimate moments on screen, particularly reminiscent of their scenes in Game of Thrones, is a bit surprising. Interestingly, the actors themselves have admitted it’s awkward! Turner mentioned last year that kissing Harington made her uncomfortable. Despite that, they delivered convincing performances, which is pretty impressive. Maybe they deserve an award… for the most realistically awkward on-screen romance.

It’s clear these two things aren’t actually connected. While The Dreadful being a horror movie might make it easier to watch, be warned – there are some potentially uncomfortable character dynamics. The movie will be available on-demand and in theaters on February 20th.
