A Familiar Face Takes On a Legendary Role
Kratos is a hugely popular video game character. He began as a Spartan warrior and later became a god, and his journey is filled with sadness, a desire for revenge, and ultimately, personal change.
This new live-action series will draw from Norse mythology within the story, focusing on Kratos as he adjusts to being a father and forges a different future.
God of War tells the story of Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they travel together to scatter the ashes of Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother, Faye. During their journey, they battle creatures, gods, and struggle with their personal issues.
At the core of the show is the touching relationship between Kratos and his son, Atreus. Kratos wants to be a better parent than he was a god, while Atreus gently tries to help his father reconnect with his humanity.
Here is the official character description:
Kratos, the central character of the God of War series, was born a Spartan warrior and became a god through his own power. He led armies for Sparta until he made a deal with the god Ares, trading his soul for victory in battle. Over the course of ten popular games, Kratos defeated countless enemies – humans, monsters, and even gods – becoming a well-known figure celebrated for his strength, quiet intensity, and heartbreaking history. The new live-action God of War series will continue his story, focusing on his relationship with his ten-year-old son, Atreus, as established in the most recent games. This father-son bond marks a fresh direction for the series and will be central to the show’s plot.

Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are partnering to create the series, with support from PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Outlander and Battlestar Galactica, is leading the project as showrunner, executive producer, and writer.
A large team of executive producers is working on the project, including Maril Davis, Cory Barlog (Creative Director for the God of War games), Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. The Legacy of God of War
Originally launched in 2005, God of War is now a legendary PlayStation franchise. Over ten games tell the story of Kratos, evolving from a furious Spartan warrior into a troubled, mourning father.
