Melissa Gilbert is supporting her husband, actor Timothy Busfield, while he deals with serious criminal charges. Her publicist shared this information with Entertainment Weekly.
After a warrant was issued for his arrest, Busfield surrendered to police in New Mexico. The warrant stems from accusations of child abuse, and the case is currently being investigated. Busfield has been released as the investigation proceeds.
Melissa Gilbert isn’t speaking publicly right now, according to her representative. Publicist Ame Van Iden stated that the actress is remaining silent. The representative also cautioned against believing any quotes or videos circulating online that claim to be from Gilbert, including those created using artificial intelligence.
The publicist says Gilbert is following her husband’s lawyers’ guidance and won’t be making any public statements while his case is ongoing.
A recent statement confirmed that Gilbert’s priority is currently her family. It explained that she is focused on supporting and caring for them during this difficult time. Melissa Gilbert stands by her husband and will make a public statement when she’s ready. The family has requested privacy.
After the arrest warrant was announced, Gilbert deactivated her social media. She has been married to Busfield since 2013.
According to court records, two former child actors have accused actor Busfield of inappropriate conduct during the filming of the TV series The Cleaning Lady between late 2022 and early 2024. One of the actors stated he was inappropriately touched on multiple occasions and has since been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety.
Busfield has firmly denied the allegations made against him. In a video posted by TMZ, he stated, “I’m going to address these false claims. They are awful and completely untrue. I did not harm those boys in any way.” He also said he intends to vigorously defend himself in court and is confident he will be exonerated.
As a total true crime and Hollywood buff, I’ve been following this case closely. Apparently, according to the police report, Officer Brown spoke with both Busfield and Gilbert back in November 2025. Busfield told him the parents of the child actors were really unhappy – furious, even – that their kids weren’t invited back for another season. He also mentioned Warner Bros., the studio making the show, actually did their own internal investigation after the parents started complaining. It’s a bizarre story, and the idea that a TV show could lead to this is just wild.
The officer reported that Busfield and Gilbert acknowledged having a personal relationship with the children and their family, extending beyond their professional duties. This involved giving the boys presents and participating in family gatherings.
