Kiefer Sutherland was arrested in Hollywood early Monday morning for reportedly assaulting a ride-share driver. Police say the incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.
According to the LAPD, Sutherland got into a ride-share car and attacked the driver, also making threats. Fortunately, the driver wasn’t injured.
After being released on a $50,000 bond, 59-year-old Sutherland is due in court on February 2nd. The BBC has contacted his representatives for a statement.
Kiefer Sutherland is famous for his roles as Jack Bauer in the TV series 24 and as the President of the United States in Designated Survivor. He’s also the son of well-known actor Donald Sutherland.
The actor has a history of legal troubles. He spent 48 days in jail in 2007 after being convicted of drunk driving and violating his probation. While he was accused of assault in 2009, the charges were dismissed. More recently, in 2020, he was arrested for making an illegal turn in Hollywood.
Donald Sutherland remained active in film and television recently. He lent his voice to the Apple TV+ documentary series John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial, which came out in December 2023, and starred in Clint Eastwood’s 2024 courtroom drama, Juror No. 2.
Sutherland’s recent arrest is just the latest in a series of legal issues he’s faced. It also makes people wonder what this will mean for his career going forward.
In 2007, Sutherland was arrested for driving under the influence in Los Angeles. This was his fourth DUI offense since 1989, and he spent 48 days in jail after accepting a plea deal. Two years later, in 2009, he was arrested in New York for hitting fashion designer Jack McCollough. However, the charges were dismissed after Sutherland publicly apologized.
