NBC has decided to pull an upcoming episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit from the schedule. The episode, titled ‘Corrosive’ and featuring a guest appearance by Timothy Busfield as a judge, was originally planned to air in mid-January but will no longer be broadcast, as confirmed by Variety.
I just heard that the episode we were all looking forward to has been postponed. Instead, they’re going to show one that was originally planned for next week. It’s great to see Busfield again – he was on the show way back in 2011! And I didn’t realize he’d directed a couple of episodes too, back in 2019. He’s really involved with the show!
The episode has been removed from broadcast following reports that the actor and director has been arrested in New Mexico. He is accused of two counts of s abuse involving a child, and the allegations stem from his work on the Fox series, The Cleaning Lady.
Legal papers show the investigation focuses on former child actor twin brothers. One brother told investigators that Busfield twice touched him inappropriately – once when he was seven years old and again when he was eight.
According to police reports, the boy told an Albuquerque detective he was very scared of the director and felt relieved when the director wasn’t around during filming. Busfield reportedly contacted the police late last year to discuss these concerns.
The director was questioned about whether he had touched the children physically, like tickling them. He initially said he probably would have done so if their parents were around. However, he later told the investigator he didn’t recall those specific children or any interactions with them.
The company that made the show, Warner Bros. Television, had already looked into similar concerns before. They started this earlier investigation after receiving an anonymous report about a separate issue – a possible incident with a child in the hair and makeup area. However, an independent investigator couldn’t find any proof to support those claims at the time.
According to the police report, the detective faced challenges getting information from the studio. It took months to obtain the necessary investigative reports even with a search warrant. The studio also insisted that all communication with employees go through their legal counsel.
Busfield told the police he believed there was a reason someone would make these accusations. He said the show’s lead actress had told him the boys’ mother was seeking revenge because her children weren’t asked to return for the last season.
Elodie Yung, the lead actress, has chosen not to cooperate with the police investigation, stating she wants to avoid involvement in the legal case. The arrest warrant was issued by a judge on Friday afternoon after the criminal complaint was filed.
Timothy Busfield is a veteran actor with a successful career lasting many years. He’s widely recognized for playing Elliot Weston on the TV drama Thirtysomething, a role that won him an Emmy Award for best supporting actor.
He was also well-known for playing Danny Concannon in the popular show The West Wing, where he portrayed a determined White House reporter with a complicated dynamic with the press secretary. Beyond television, he appeared in memorable films like Field of Dreams and Revenge of the Nerds.
The series The Cleaning Lady, which he directed, finished airing on Fox in 2025. The show centered around a doctor who takes a job cleaning for a dangerous criminal organization in order to protect her son. It received positive attention for featuring a diverse group of actors and for realistically portraying the challenges faced by undocumented immigrants.
Busfield directed six episodes of the series during its time on television. He also had a background in theater, performing in several Broadway shows. More recently, he focused on directing and producing for television.
Prosecutors in the Second Judicial District have stopped commenting on the ongoing case. Warner Bros. says they are committed to investigating all claims of wrongdoing and ensuring a safe working environment for young performers on their productions.
With the legal case progressing in New Mexico, it’s uncertain how it will affect Busfield’s career. Industry professionals are following the situation closely as it moves through the courts. So far, Busfield’s lawyers haven’t released a statement regarding the accusations.
