Elon Musk Pledges to Make ‘Star Trek’ Real

This week, Elon Musk generated buzz in South Texas by linking SpaceX’s goals to the world of ‘Star Trek’. Speaking at the SpaceX facility, he explained that the company’s long-term aim is essentially to bring the fictional universe of ‘Star Trek’ to life.

The speech wasn’t a coincidence, coming just before the announcement of a significant new project within the Star Trek world. Musk stated his goal was to make the idea of Starfleet Academy a reality, suggesting that what seems like science fiction today could become scientific fact in the future. He spoke from a platform bearing the phrase “THE ARSENAL OF FREEDOM,” referencing both American manufacturing and a memorable episode from the original Star Trek series.

Following a tour of the facility with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and other top Pentagon officials, Elon Musk began his presentation with the song “No More Mr. Nice Guy” by Alice Cooper, immediately establishing a bold and assertive atmosphere. He passionately described a future featuring incredible, advanced spaceships capable of taking people not just beyond the moon, but potentially to other stars.

“We’re eager to explore and understand what’s out there,” Musk said to the audience. He explained his hope of finding evidence of past alien civilizations or even making contact with living extraterrestrial life. Musk sees the Starbase factory as essential for maintaining America’s leading role in space exploration.

Musk’s speech emphasized the remarkable nature of the location, which he described with pride as a city built from the ground up. Starbase, previously known as Boca Chica Village, officially became a city in May 2025 after a vote largely by SpaceX employees. “This is a city – it’s legally a city,” Musk explained, inviting those interested to visit and see the impressive technology firsthand.

I’m really excited for the new Star Trek series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which is hitting Paramount+ this Thursday, January 15th! From what I’ve heard, it’s going to really expand the Star Trek universe by following a fresh group of cadets as they learn the ropes in the 32nd century – think all the drama of school combined with interstellar adventures. Plus, the cast is amazing! Holly Hunter, an Academy Award winner, is playing the chancellor, and Paul Giamatti is apparently going to be a seriously great villain. I can’t wait to check it out.

This show is a continuation of the story from Star Trek: Discovery, offering a new take on the classic Star Trek universe. It will feature both new characters and some returning favorites, including Robert Picardo as his beloved holographic Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager. The first season will have ten episodes, and the show has already been renewed for a second season, even before the first one finishes airing.

Recently, Elon Musk has been heavily involved in working with various government agencies and pushing forward the Starship program. In addition to his official collaborations, like those with the Department of Defense, he’s also been informally working to improve government efficiency – a role some have playfully dubbed the ‘Department of Government Efficiency,’ or DOGE.

SpaceX recently won a $739 million contract to improve its ability to track satellites, which strengthens the connection between its business and U.S. national security.

Beyond his space ambitions, Elon Musk is still heavily involved with Tesla’s progress, particularly its work with artificial intelligence and robots. He frequently sparks public debate with his posts on social media, where it’s often hard to tell whether he’s promoting his companies or sharing his political views. Whether it’s through his space program or advocating for changes in regulations, Musk seems intent on staying a prominent figure in global discussions through 2026.
