Iconic Marvel Writer Says More Classic X-Men Return in DOOMSDAY

Marvel fans were thrilled to see familiar faces from the X-Men films return in the teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, especially James Marsden as Cyclops sporting his classic comic book look. However, not all the original team members are confirmed to be back. While Famke Janssen (Jean Grey) and Halle Berry (Storm) have stated they aren’t involved, veteran X-Men writer Chris Claremont suggests that Famke Janssen is returning, along with other beloved characters. Claremont shared this news during an appearance on the Power of X-Men podcast, as reported by IGN. Here’s what he said:

What I’m most excited about is that they’re reuniting the original cast, with Famke being one of them.

Chris Claremont is the writer who really made the X-Men popular. He wrote Uncanny X-Men for 16 years, from 1975 to 1991, and during that time, the comic became Marvel’s best-selling title. He’s consulted on X-Men movies in the past, even appearing briefly in Days of Future Past, which was based on one of his famous stories. So, it’s not surprising he might have some inside knowledge about the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s possible he simply misunderstood something, but we’re choosing to think he knows what he’s talking about.

Last year, during a podcast interview, writer Chris Claremont correctly predicted Chris Evans would reprise his role as a younger version of Steve Rogers. It’s a mystery whether Marvel simply overlooked getting him to sign a non-disclosure agreement, or if he doesn’t mind sharing secrets. Regardless, it now appears the cast of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday featuring the X-Men will be significantly larger than originally thought. With classic Sentinels expected to be the villains, the team will likely need all the mutant heroes they can gather.
