Jennifer Lawrence recently explained that she actually prefers filming love scenes with actors she doesn’t have a personal relationship with. She feels it makes the process easier.
Jennifer Lawrence recently shared on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, as reported by People magazine, that filming intimate scenes is actually easier when working with actors she doesn’t know well.
Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar, said working with Robert Pattinson on “Die My Love” felt surprisingly easier than filming with her close friend Josh Hutcherson in the “Hunger Games” movies. She explained, “It was actually easier because Rob and I didn’t know each other, and that was actually better, you know?”
She compared a potential on-screen kiss with Josh Hutcherson to the movie ‘Hunger Games,’ saying the idea was strange. She actually felt it would be easier to kiss a stranger instead.
Lynne Ramsay’s film, “Die My Love,” centers on a woman experiencing psychosis after becoming a new mother. Interestingly, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson filmed a nude scene together on the first day of production. Despite having an intimacy coordinator on set, Lawrence later shared on the Las Culturistas podcast that she felt comfortable and didn’t believe one was necessary for that particular scene.
She explained that they didn’t have an intimacy coordinator on set, or if they did, it wasn’t someone she relied on. She felt very safe working with Rob, describing him as respectful and genuinely devoted to his partner, Suki Waterhouse. They spent most of their time discussing family and relationships, and she never felt any inappropriate attention or had to worry about him misinterpreting her actions. She noted that some male actors can be sensitive if boundaries are set, potentially leading to negative consequences, but Rob wasn’t like that at all.
Lawrence discussed how her views on appearing nude on screen have evolved. She explained that while filming ‘Die My Love,’ she wasn’t concerned with her appearance, which was different from how she prepared for ‘No Hard Feelings,’ where she focused on getting into shape.
She stated she wasn’t bothered by nudity and wanted the artist, Lynne, to have complete creative control. She felt that being pregnant eased her anxieties about appearance. Before filming ‘No Hard Feelings,’ she was focused on dieting and intense workouts, and was pregnant during the filming of ‘Die My Love,’ making such restrictions impossible. While working long hours, she recalled receiving a close-up photo of her cellulite with an offer to edit it, but she refused, stating it was a natural part of her body.
Jennifer Lawrence’s openness sheds light on the difficulties actors face when filming intimate scenes. She’s found that working with people she trusts – whether they’re strangers or fellow actors – helps her concentrate on the performance itself, rather than getting caught up in personal relationships.
