Sebastian Stan will be joining the cast of The Batman: Part II, playing the character Harvey Dent. This news comes from The Hollywood Reporter and adds to the excitement surrounding the sequel to the popular 2022 film.
Stan is well-known for his work in superhero movies, especially for playing the character Bucky Barnes, or the Winter Soldier, in many Marvel films.
Though he’s known for playing costumed heroes, what role he’ll have in the next Batman movie remains a secret. Fans are wondering if his character will team up with Bruce Wayne or become one of Gotham’s famous criminals.
I’m so excited for the next Batman movie! Matt Reeves is directing, and they’re planning to start filming next spring. Warner Bros. is aiming for an October 2027 release, which feels like a long way off, but totally worth the wait. The first one, with Robert Pattinson as Batman, was amazing – it came out in March 2022 and made almost $772 million around the world! I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
The cast for the sequel is expanding, with Scarlett Johansson – an Academy Award nominee – joining the team, marking another collaboration with star John Stan after their time together in several Marvel movies. Colin Farrell will return as The Penguin (Oz Cobblepot), alongside Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Barry Keoghan is also likely to be back as the Joker.
At the Emmys, Reeves discussed the long development process of the film, expressing his excitement and pride in the script he co-wrote with Mattson. He also revealed how carefully guarded the project was, explaining that the script was kept in a locked, secure pouch while Pattinson was in New York.
Though not directly connected to the new DC Universe being built by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the sequel to The Batman is still in development. The new DC Universe recently launched with Superman, which has already earned $615 million globally. Other upcoming DC films include Supergirl (June), Clayface (September 2026), Man of Tomorrow (the Superman sequel, July 2027), and a new Wonder Woman movie.
Stan has also been working on other films. He recently starred in Thunderbolts, a Marvel movie that didn’t do as well as expected in theaters. He’s previously appeared in films like I, Tonya and A Different Man. He’s next scheduled to be in Avengers: Doomsday and a thriller called Fjord.
People are really looking forward to Stan playing Harvey Dent, a famously complicated character from Gotham. He’s well-suited for the part because he’s done superhero movies before and has a strong working relationship with both Johansson and Pattinson.
DC Studios hasn’t officially confirmed the casting, but Stan is represented by the agencies CAA and B-Side Management. The news was initially reported by Deadline.
