The Mahershala Blade is claimed to be dead, at least as a solo movie.
According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Marvel Studios has changed its plans for Blade. Instead of a solo movie, the character will now first appear in a team-up film.
According to Jeff Sneider on the podcast The Hot Mic, the character won’t get his own movie right away. Instead, he’ll first appear in the Midnight Sons project.
This is the latest development in the complicated history of the Blade movie, which was originally announced almost seven years ago at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019.
Even with Mahershala Ali, an Academy Award winner, committed to the film from the start, the project has been plagued by problems. It’s gone through multiple director changes, discarded scripts, and significant creative revisions.

Blade Movie Officially Dead?
While Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything, this new rumor tracks with recent developments.
Last summer, Variety said Marvel wasn’t rushing to start work on Blade. More recently, Mia Goth, who was reportedly going to play Lilith, revealed the film had gotten as far as costume design and screen tests before being canceled.
Kevin Feige has revealed the movie went through several drafts – at least four – including two that were set earlier in time. One of these versions centered on Blade’s daughter instead of Mahershala Ali’s character, but it was ultimately abandoned. Interestingly, some of the costumes designed for that scrapped version ended up being used in Ryan Coogler’s film, Sinners.

What Is Midnight Sons?
The Midnight Sons are Marvel’s team of supernatural heroes, often featuring characters like Blade, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight. With Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night already appearing in Marvel projects, a team-up featuring the Midnight Sons seems possible.
Marvel’s decision to make Blade a team-up movie could be a way to fix problems with the project and simplify their plans, especially as audiences seem to be getting tired of superhero films and the company is rethinking its overall strategy.
If a Blade movie or a Midnight Sons project ever moves forward, it likely won’t be released until after Secret Wars comes out in 2027. That means it would be about ten years after Mahershala Ali and Kevin Feige initially announced they were working on something.
