Kathryn Hahn May Play Mother Gothel in Live-Action TANGLED

Unexpected casting choices can sometimes be brilliant, like Michael Keaton as Batman. Other times, sticking with popular choices works just as well, as seen with Patrick Stewart as Professor X. The latest news from Deadline falls into that latter category: Kathryn Hahn, known for her role as the witty witch Agatha Harkness in WandaVision and Agatha All Along, is reportedly in talks to play Mother Gothel in Disney’s live-action Tangled remake. It seems like the internet’s dream casting sometimes actually happens!

In the 2010 animated film Tangled, Mother Gothel, with her dark hair, is the main villain. While not a traditional witch, she uses the magic in Rapunzel’s hair to stay young forever – which is close enough! Many fans initially hoped Cher would play Gothel, but Mandy Hahn is a fantastic choice for the role. Recently, the live-action Tangled cast Teagan Croft (formerly of Titans) as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider.

Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman, is still set to direct a live-action version of Tangled, based on a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Disney paused its live-action remakes, including Tangled, after the film Snow White didn’t perform well. However, the success of Lilo & Stitch – which earned over a billion dollars last year – led Disney to restart production on Tangled. Scarlett Johansson was initially considered for the lead role, but had to withdraw due to her commitments to the Exorcist sequel and The Batman – Part II. We believe Kathryn Hahn would be a better fit, especially since she’s a talented singer. Hopefully, this remake will be more successful than other recent live-action Disney adaptations.
