Zack Snyder recently posted a nostalgic image from the DC Extended Universe, showing Ben Affleck dressed as the Knightmare Batman from his director’s cut of Justice League. The look is from the film’s dystopian future timeline.
Snyder captioned the Instagram post:
Bruce Wayne is a fugitive in a ruined future, relentlessly pursued by Parademons and a familiar enemy. The world is on the brink of collapse, and he’s taking a desperate chance – sending the Flash back in time to try and fix everything. This is the story from Zack Snyder’s Justice League, set in a bleak timeline where hope is fading fast.
This announcement comes after Paramount challenged Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision and reaffirmed its support for Netflix.

The Knightmare Timeline Revisited
The Knightmare scenes are still some of the most fascinating and unique parts of Zack Snyder’s DC movies.
First shown in Batman v Superman and later developed in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, this dark future imagined a world ruled by the villain Darkseid. In this timeline, Superman had been corrupted, and Batman led a group fighting to restore hope and change the course of history.
Snyder’s latest image instantly transports fans back to that world, showcasing a heavily armored and fully equipped Batman, which is quite different from the more conventional versions seen in the movie releases.
Another Reminder of the Unfinished Story
Zack Snyder is continuing to share content that appeals to fans of his DC films. This recent post is similar to others he’s shared lately, highlighting characters like Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg, Amber Heard’s Mera, and Michael Shannon’s Zod.
Every new image has sparked further discussion about the possibility of these characters – and this particular storyline – reappearing if ownership of Warner Bros. Discovery were to change.
The Knightmare story was originally planned to continue in a sequel, which would have shown the consequences of the Flash’s risky time travel and how Superman eventually found his way back to being a hero.
While that film never materialized, Snyder’s social media posts are keeping the vision alive.
