I recently received a strange email from an unfamiliar sender. As an editor for a pop culture website, I get those fairly often. It claimed to be from the Undertone Podcast, but the email address had “undertone” spelled backwards. What really caught my eye was the subject line: “DRAEH EB OT STNAW TI.” I figured it was just spam and almost deleted it right away.
At first, the email subject line just looked like gibberish. Then I realized it was a reversed message that spelled out “It Wants To Be Heard.” Considering I’ve had some spooky experiences before, my first thought was, “Seriously?” Luckily, it wasn’t a real haunting – it was a clever teaser for the trailer of A24’s new horror podcast movie, undertone. (And yes, the title is intentionally all lowercase.)
The movie centers around Nina Kiri, who hosts a podcast about the paranormal. She starts receiving strange audio recordings and begins to play them in reverse, which leads to frightening experiences. The film’s trailer is full of eerie sounds and unsettling visuals. It was written and directed by Ian Tuason and features performances by Kris Holden-Ried, Michèle Duquet, Keana Lyn Bastidas, Sarah Beaudin, Seled Calderon, and Adam DiMarco.
What Is the Release Date for A24’s undertone Horror Film?
Discover the secrets behind the strange files and whether the podcast host will survive when the movie Undertone is released on March 13th.
