Due to the huge success of Sydney Sweeney’s thriller, “The Housemaid,” a sequel is now in the works. Lionsgate has confirmed “The Housemaid’s Secret” is officially being developed and filming is planned to begin later this year.
I’m totally hooked on this new movie! It’s directed by Paul Feig, and it’s already made over $133 million worldwide in just a couple of weeks – that’s incredible considering it only cost $35 million to make. The story centers around Millie, played by Sydney Sweeney, who’s trying to start fresh by becoming a live-in maid for this super-rich couple, Nina and Andrew Winchester. It’s a really compelling setup!
The movie centers around a couple with hidden, dangerous secrets. Their groundskeeper, Enzo, played by Michele Morrone, unexpectedly becomes a key helper to Millie. Amanda Seyfried and Elizabeth Perkins also star in the film. As the credits roll, Taylor Swift’s song “I Did Something Bad” hints at what Millie will do next.
Adam Fogelson, head of Lionsgate’s film division, stated that the strong box office numbers and enthusiastic social media response to The Housemaid clearly show audiences loved the film’s unique theatrical experience and are eager for a sequel. He also expressed the studio’s excitement about continuing Millie’s story.
The next installment will be based on the second book in Freida McFadden’s popular trilogy, with Rebecca Sonnenshine writing the screenplay. Sweeney and McFadden will be back as executive producers, joined by Carly Elter and Alex Young from Hidden Pictures.
Paul Feig shared his enthusiasm for the project, saying he’s been delighted to see how much audiences worldwide have enjoyed ‘The Housemaid’ and the team behind it. He’s pleased that the author, Freida McFadden, has continued Millie’s story in her books, and they’re excited to collaborate with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring the next chapter to viewers.
Michele Morrone and Alisha Sweeney are likely to reprise their roles in a sequel, and Amanda Seyfried has suggested she might make a brief appearance. In an interview with Variety, she indicated a second film is definitely planned and that she’s almost certain to have a small role, as the story will follow Syd working with a new family.

The first book in the “Housemaid” series has been a huge success, selling over 12 million copies and being published in 40 different languages. The second book also performed exceptionally well, selling four million copies and continuing Millie’s suspenseful story. Lionsgate is thrilled with the project and eager to share this exciting story with more readers.
Thanks to strong ticket sales, enthusiastic fans, and a popular book series, “The Housemaid’s Secret” is expected to be a big success for Lionsgate.
