Jeremy Clarkson has been discussing health problems he’s experiencing after quickly losing a significant amount of weight with medication. He says the drug is now causing muscle issues, and he’s reluctant to do what’s needed to address them.
In a recent article for The Times, Jeremy Clarkson discussed why New Year’s resolutions often fail. Though the piece was primarily about cars, he started by observing that many people try to get healthier but find it too difficult to maintain.
Clarkson then talked about his personal experience using the weight loss drug Mounjaro. He noted studies indicated the drug can lead to muscle loss, so he emphasized the importance of strength training to counteract this. He also reflected on human nature, writing: “We’re smart enough to know what’s good for us, but often we just can’t motivate ourselves to do it.”
Clarkson revealed that recent medical tests showed his medication, Mounjaro, was causing muscle loss. He explained that doctors advised him to start weight training to combat this, but he admitted he probably won’t. He stated he’d likely stop taking Mounjaro because he doesn’t like being short of breath.
Mounjaro, also called Tirzepatide, is a medication that aids weight loss by decreasing appetite and increasing feelings of fullness.
Jeremy Clarkson reports losing about three stone in six months thanks to a weight loss treatment, but believes he’s reached a standstill. He told The Sun that his shoes are now too big for him, indicating significant weight loss. While he’s stopped losing weight despite continuing the treatment, he’s also not gaining any back, as the drug effectively controls his appetite. He describes it as a remarkably effective medication.
Clarkson recently shared with The Sun that he’s largely avoided the typical side effects of the medication he’s taking, though he has experienced some minor changes. He joked that while he hasn’t had constipation, and any decrease in libido is hard to attribute solely to the drug at his age (65). He also mentioned feeling slightly less mentally sharp, and his partner, Lisa Hogan, has observed that he’s become a bit more irritable.
