Dwayne Johnson delighted his followers by posting a seldom-seen childhood photo, and people online immediately responded.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson shared an old photo on Instagram to celebrate the New Year. The picture shows him as a teenager in Honolulu, Hawaii, with a full head of hair – a surprising look for fans who know him today as a bald actor. He’s shirtless and wearing only sweatpants in the throwback snapshot.
Johnson shared a throwback photo and revealed he was only 13 years old when it was taken. He used the post to wish his followers a Happy New Year and playfully commented on his youthful appearance. He wrote, “13 years old. Honolulu, Hawaii. One awkward afro. Two fake gold chains. And a chest that definitely needed support! There’s hope for everyone. Happy New Year, friends 🥂.”

Wow, that post just blew up! Everyone was so shocked at how mature he looked, it was crazy. People were joking he looked closer to thirty than thirteen! Honestly, the comments were flooded with people calling him a legend – it was amazing to see all the positive reactions. I couldn’t believe how quickly it all happened!
Beyond his social media presence, Dwayne Johnson remains active in film. He recently starred as retired MMA fighter Mark Kerr in the 2025 sports drama, The Smashing Machine, directed by Benny Safdie.
Taking on the role was a big change for Johnson, and he needed extensive makeup and a wig to transform his look. He explained that the part gave him a chance to reveal a more vulnerable and heartfelt side of his personality. While the movie was well-received by critics at its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, it didn’t perform well financially in theaters.
Dwayne Johnson will reprise his role as Maui in the live-action remake of Moana, scheduled for release in 2026. He’s also committed to several ambitious films, collaborating with renowned directors like Martin Scorsese, Darren Aronofsky, and J.J. Abrams.
