Viewers enjoy both long-running crime shows and intense series from Taylor Sheridan. Recent data shows subscribers are especially drawn to familiar franchises and stories with a lot at stake, making these shows the most popular choices as we head into the new year.

‘The Neighborhood’ (2018–)

This comedy centers on a warmhearted family from the Midwest who relocate to a Los Angeles neighborhood with a majority Black population. Dave Johnson tries to become friends with his initially wary neighbor, Calvin Butler, by being consistently positive and never giving up. The show uses humor and touching moments to explore the challenges and connections that arise from different cultures and community life. It’s become a popular show on the network, consistently attracting a large audience with its stories about everyday life and relationships.

‘Criminal Minds’ (2005–)

FBI profilers who specialize in understanding criminals study the nation’s most dangerous minds to predict what they’ll do next. The latest seasons, called ‘Criminal Minds Evolution,’ build on this tradition by focusing on one major villain throughout each story. This popular show continues to attract viewers who enjoy thrilling investigations and well-developed characters.

A young couple unexpectedly comes into ownership of a large country house, only to find it’s already occupied by ghosts from different periods in history. After a close call, Samantha gains the unique ability to see and talk to these spirits. ‘NCIS’ (2003–)

As a huge TV fan, I’m always impressed by shows that really nail a unique formula. This one follows a team of special agents who investigate serious crimes connected to the Navy and Marine Corps – everything from terrorism and spying to murder and people vanishing without a trace. What I really love is that it manages to balance intense military investigations with a surprising amount of humor. It’s become a massive hit, spawning spin-offs all over the world, and it’s honestly one of the longest-running and most successful dramas on television, and for good reason!

‘Tulsa King’ (2022–)

Sylvester Stallone plays Dwight Manfredi, a Mafia leader getting out of prison after 25 years. His boss sends him to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to start a new criminal operation in a place he doesn’t know. Dwight assembles a team of quirky characters to help him take control of the area. The show is a mix of serious crime drama and funny moments, created by Taylor Sheridan.

‘Mayor of Kingstown’ (2021–)

In Kingstown, Michigan, the McLusky family holds significant power, as the town’s economy largely depends on its many prisons. Mike McLusky works to keep the peace by managing the difficult connections between the police, prisoners, and the system itself. The series explores tough questions about justice and morality when the environment is deeply flawed. Jeremy Renner stars in this raw and compelling look at the world of prisons and those who profit from them.

‘Landman’ (2024–)

As a huge fan of character-driven dramas, I was immediately hooked by this new series. It’s set in the fast-paced world of the West Texas oil boom, and it really dives into the lives of the people working in the industry – from the guys getting their hands dirty to the incredibly wealthy people running the show. The story centers around a crisis manager – Billy Bob Thornton is fantastic in the role – who’s constantly dealing with the risks and complications of modern oil production. What I found particularly compelling is how it doesn’t shy away from showing the real impact this business has on the communities and the environment. And knowing it’s from Taylor Sheridan, the creative force behind so many great shows, made me even more excited to watch it.
