Fans love them not just because they’re powerful fighters, but also because they’re complex and captivating. Here are some anime titles that showcase these strong, Black-inspired characters who are at the top of their game.
‘Afro Samurai’ (2007)

Okay, so this movie is seriously intense. It centers around this unbelievably skilled swordsman named Afro, living in a world where fighters battle for the ultimate title – wearing the Number 1 Headband. I mean, this guy is good – we’re talking deflecting bullets with his sword good! The whole story follows his quest for revenge; someone murdered his father to steal that title of world’s strongest, and Afro is out for blood. He just keeps taking down these ridiculously powerful opponents, and by the end, he doesn’t just win, he becomes a legend with that headband. It’s a brutal, action-packed ride!
‘Pokémon Journeys: The Series’ (2019–2022)

Leon is the current, undefeated champion of the World Coronation Series, widely considered the strongest Pokémon Trainer globally. He’s famous for his powerful Charizard, which he uses to easily defeat opponents with a diverse range of moves. Many Trainers try to beat him, but almost none can even come close. Throughout this Pokémon journey, defeating Leon is the main goal for Ash Ketchum.
‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean’ (2021–2022)

Enrico Pucci is the main villain and possesses a powerful ability that eventually becomes Made in Heaven. This ultimate form allows him to move at incredible speeds and speed up time to the point where the universe restarts. He ultimately defeats the heroes and reshapes reality to match his idea of destiny. Throughout the series, his strength in this final arc is greater than almost any other character.
‘Baki’ (2018–2020)

Biscuit Oliva, nicknamed ‘Mr. Unchained,’ is incredibly strong and essentially lives outside the law. He’s held in a prison, but enjoys a life of luxury because the guards can’t control him – instead, he helps them by capturing other criminals. His muscles are so dense they can withstand shotgun blasts, and he’s even strong enough to affect satellites with just a flex. Oliva is considered the strongest man in America, and is a match for even the most powerful fighters in Japan.
‘Durarara!!’ (2010)

Simon Brezhnev is a sushi chef in Ikebukuro with incredible strength – strong enough to intimidate even the toughest gangs. He can easily break up fights involving people with superpowers and has even been known to throw full-grown men with just one hand. Despite his power, he’s a peaceful person who’d rather distribute flyers than fight. Those familiar with the city’s undercurrents know he’s one of the few who can actually physically hold back the unpredictable Shizuo Heiwajima.
‘One Piece’ (1999–Present)

Marshall D. Teach, better known as Blackbeard, quickly rose to power, going from a crew member of the Whitebeard Pirates to one of the Four Emperors who rule the seas. He’s incredibly powerful because he can use two different Devil Fruit abilities at the same time, giving him control over darkness and vibrations. This allows him to cancel out other powers and even create earthquakes, making him a major danger to the World Government. Currently, he’s considered one of the most likely pirates to become the Pirate King.
‘Naruto Shippūden’ (2007–2017)

Killer Bee is the host of the Eight-Tails, a powerful beast he fully controls. He easily defeats Team Taka on his own, showcasing incredible skill with swords – he can expertly wield seven blades at once while performing amazing acrobatics. He’s also a talented rapper, and plays a key part in the Fourth Great Ninja War. Throughout the series, Bee is known for being one of the very few fighters who never loses a straight-up, one-on-one battle.
‘Fire Force’ (2019–2020)

Ogun Montgomery is a member of Company 8 with incredible power, comparable to the captains of the Special Fire Force. He uses his unique ability, Flamy Ink, to create tattoos that enhance his strength and protect him from heat. Unlike most fire users, Ogun’s rigorous training lets him maintain powerful attacks for extended periods without burning out. He consistently shows he’s a dependable and strong fighter, especially during dangerous missions against the Evangelist.
‘Bleach’ (2004–2012)

Yoruichi Shihouin, known as the Flash Goddess, is the fastest character in the Soul Society. She’s a master of Shunko, a fighting style that combines powerful hand-to-hand combat with concentrated spiritual energy. Her incredible speed lets her move faster than anyone can react, allowing her to defeat enemies before they even realize she’s attacked. Yoruichi is famous for fighting without a sword, as her natural strength and skill are enough to defeat even the most powerful opponents.
‘Yasuke’ (2021)

Yasuke is a famed Black samurai who once fought for the powerful Oda Nobunaga. He’s incredibly strong, almost superhuman, and comes out of hiding to protect a young girl with magical abilities. He battles massive armies of robots and mutated soldiers, using his unmatched skill with a sword to slice through any armor and overcome even magically-powered enemies. Yasuke embodies the spirit of a true warrior, consistently surviving fights that would instantly kill anyone else.
‘Soul Eater’ (2008–2009)

Kilik Rung is one of the best students at the Death Weapon Meister Academy, fighting with the powerful twin pots, Fire and Thunder. He combines martial arts and elemental attacks to defeat witches and creatures corrupted by madness. Even Death himself recognizes Kilik’s talent and relies on him to protect the world. Kilik stays calm and focused during battles, helping him maintain his impressive record of victories.
‘Cannon Busters’ (2019)

Philly the Kid is an outlaw who can’t be killed – he always comes back to life. He’s constantly on the run from bounty hunters, and he’s incredibly skilled with both guns and his fists. Because of all the people he’s defeated, the kingdom is determined to capture him. But his ability to revive makes him a relentless opponent in any fight that lasts.
‘My Hero Academia’ (2016–Present)

Mirko, ranked as the fifth best Pro Hero, fights genetically engineered monsters using only her enhanced physical abilities. Her Quirk gives her rabbit-like traits, including incredibly strong legs and sharp instincts. She’s known for taking on several powerful Nomu at once and continuing to battle even when seriously hurt. This combination of toughness and strength makes her one of the most formidable fighters in the hero world.
‘Dragon Ball GT’ (1996–1997)

Uub is the reborn version of the dangerous Majin Buu, possessing the same incredible power that could destroy planets. Goku trains him specifically to control this ability, and Uub eventually becomes Earth’s protector after Goku is gone. He later combines with the good part of Buu, becoming strong enough to fight even powerful villains like Baby Vegeta. By the end of the series, Uub is established as the strongest human character.
‘Super Crooks’ (2021)

Okay, so Johnny Bolt is seriously a force to be reckoned with! He’s the leader of this supervillain team, and his power is all about electricity – he can control it with incredible accuracy. I mean, he can just shut down entire security systems or blast people with huge jolts from way across the room! But it’s not just raw power, he’s super smart too. He’s always outthinking the heroes and other villains. Basically, he’s the brains behind every operation, pulling off heists that nobody else would even dream of attempting. He really runs the show.
‘Michiko & Hatchin’ (2008–2009)

Michiko Malandro is a powerful escaped prisoner known for her intense fighting skills and fearless nature. She travels across dangerous territories on a motorcycle, easily defeating anyone who stands in her way – from police to criminals. Remarkably resilient, she can withstand injuries that would cripple most people, and consistently establishes herself as the strongest person wherever she goes during her journey through South America.
‘Black Lagoon’ (2006)

Dutch runs the Lagoon Company and is feared and respected by the toughest criminals in Roanapur. A Vietnam War veteran, he uses his military skills to strategically overcome more impulsive fighters like Revy. Though he appears calm, Dutch is incredibly strong and can easily defeat opponents with a single punch. He’s the only one aboard his ship capable of controlling the unpredictable crew and maintaining order.
‘Shaman King’ (2021–2022)

Chocolove McDonell is a powerful shaman connected to the spirit of a jaguar, who later gains control over the Spirit of Wind. Through intense training, he boosts his spiritual energy and becomes one of the Five Elemental Warriors. His incredible speed and wind-based attacks let him dominate battles, even against extremely powerful opponents. By the end of the series, Chocolove is among the strongest shamans alive, responsible for safeguarding the Shaman King.
‘Basquash!’ (2009)

Dan JD invented Big Foot Basketball and is an incredibly skilled and competitive mecha pilot. He changed the game by pushing boundaries and using his machine to do seemingly impossible things. Through his amazing athletic abilities in Basquash, he can even affect the fate of the planet. Dan is a top player, consistently beating both humans and aliens alike.
‘Tenjho Tenge’ (2004)

Bob Makihara is a skilled Capoeira master who uses his fluid and powerful fighting style to defeat opponents in school battles. He’s incredibly strong, able to focus his inner energy into each hit. Bob fights with the heroes, acting as a tough and reliable fighter who can both withstand attacks and deliver devastating kicks. He consistently ranks among the best fighters in a school focused on achieving martial arts dominance.
‘Neo Yokio’ (2017)

Kaz Kaan is a powerful protector of the city, defending it from demons with both his refined style and magical abilities. Though considered a highly eligible bachelor, his true importance lies in keeping the city safe. He expertly uses spiritual energy to banish ghosts that haunt the upper class, and manages to combine a bit of vanity with genuine power, repeatedly saving the city from disaster.
‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ (2000–2004)

Marik Ishtar leads the Rare Hunters and controls the incredibly powerful Winged Dragon of Ra, the strongest of the Egyptian God Cards. His darker side, Yami Marik, uses dark magic to actually hurt opponents during duels. He easily defeats strong duelists like Mai Valentine and Bakura. Marik becomes the Pharaoh’s biggest challenge, standing in his way until the very end of the Battle City tournament.
‘Fighting Spirit’ (2000–2002)

Mike Elliot is a highly skilled boxer and a major obstacle for the main characters. He’s not just strong, but also a smart fighter who studies his opponents during a match and quickly finds ways to defeat them. Elliot embodies the highest level of boxing expertise that the protagonists are working towards.
‘Hunter x Hunter’ (2011–2014)

I’m a huge fan of Canary! She’s like a trainee butler for the Zoldycks, but don’t let that fool you – she’s incredibly strong and protects their estate. Seriously, she took down one hundred professional Hunters all by herself, and it didn’t even seem to faze her! She fights with just a cane, but her attacks are so fast and powerful they’re deadly. Even though she’s young, everyone – especially the world’s most dangerous assassins – knows she’s a force to be reckoned with. She definitely commands respect and a little fear!
‘Appare-Ranman!’ (2020)

TJ is a larger-than-life rebel who enters a cross-country race. He’s incredibly strong and skilled with guns, using dual pistols to fend off both bandits and competing racers. A fantastic driver as well as a fighter, TJ is a serious threat to win the perilous race. He consistently looks out for his team, acting as their powerhouse and helping them overcome incredibly dangerous challenges.
