With the release of Stranger Things 5: The Finale, Steve Harrington’s fate is sealed – we finally know if he lives or dies. This is our last chance to ask the question, so let’s find out together: does Steve Harrington die in Stranger Things?

Does Steve Harrington Die on Stranger Things?
Steve Harrington survives the events of Stranger Things 5: The Finale. This means he ends the series alive and well. Throughout Stranger Things, fans were constantly worried about Steve, as he frequently puts himself in harm’s way and often gets injured. The possibility of his death in the final episode became a major concern, and many viewers believed he wouldn’t make it, feeling he was too popular with the audience to survive.
The Duffer Brothers definitely kept viewers on edge by hinting at Steve Harrington’s possible death. It turns out one of those near-death experiences almost became a reality.
Stranger Things 5: The Finale Did Give a Steve Harrington Death Fake-Out

It was a close call for Steve Harrington in the final season of Stranger Things! While he survived, the show definitely led viewers to believe he might not. A key part of the plan to defeat Vecna involved Steve, along with Dustin, Robin, Jonathan, Nancy, Lucas, Will, Mike, and Joyce, scaling the radio tower in the Upside Down. They hoped the tower would break through to a dangerous realm called The Abyss, allowing them to enter and rescue the children Vecna had taken.

Unfortunately, the radio tower didn’t line up with the openings Vecna created between the Abyss and the Upside Down. It scraped against the other dimension and broke off completely! As it fell, the antenna’s momentum pulled Steve Harrington over the edge. For a moment, it looked like Steve was going to fall to his death on Stranger Things 5: The Finale – especially when he lost his grip and started falling.
Steve’s Near-Death Did NOT Happen

That moment when it looked like Steve was about to fall to his death in the final episode of Stranger Things really got our hearts racing! Thankfully, it was just a scare – Jonathan Byers saved him at the last second. We were already emotional, and that near-miss was almost too much!

The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, hinted at a dramatic scene for Steve in the final episode of season 5. When Jimmy Fallon asked them to build a miniature version of the finale using Funko POP! figures, they actually showed Steve falling from a high place – a table, to be exact! It didn’t look like anyone was able to catch him, perhaps because the Funko POP! version of Jonathan wasn’t quick enough.
While the show didn’t need to scare us by making it seem like Steve might die, we were all relieved when he survived the final season of Stranger Things.
All the Times Steve ALMOST Died on Stranger Things
Now that Steve is still alive on Stranger Things, it’s a good time to remember all the close calls he’s had throughout the series.
In the first season of Stranger Things, Steve bravely runs back into the Byers’ house to fight the Demogorgon, eventually grabbing a baseball bat as a weapon. In the second season, he nearly dies twice. Once, he throws himself at numerous Demodogs to protect the kids, sustaining serious injuries in the Upside Down tunnels. The other time, it’s a more ordinary attack – Billy Hargrove hits him in the head with a plate and almost beats him up.

Honestly, it feels like the show loves to put Steve through the wringer! I mean, in Season 3, he and Robin were taken by those Russians, but Steve really took the worst of it during their questioning. And then, in Season 4? It was just brutal watching him get pulled into the Upside Down by those creepy vines and then almost choked by those demobats. Poor Steve can’t catch a break!
After everything Steve went through in the final season of Stranger Things, he really deserves a relaxing vacation!
In the End, Steve Harrington Gets to Live Happily Ever After on Stranger Things

It’s great to see Steve Harrington thriving after the events of Stranger Things. Thankfully, he survives! The new story, Stranger Things: The Finale, shows us that eighteen months later, Steve has found real happiness helping kids at Hawkins High. He’s coaching the baseball team and, surprisingly, teaching sex education! He’s a pretty easy grader and is even looking to buy a house in town. We can imagine he’s still looking out for anyone who needs a friend, making sure everyone is treated with kindness. He remains very close to Dustin, and he, Robin, Jonathan, and Nancy plan to get together regularly. It’s a happy ending for a beloved character!
It’s clear Steve Harrington is destined to be a fantastic father someday on Stranger Things, and the reason is simple: he survived! That’s something to celebrate.
Rotem Rusak, the Editor-in-Chief at TopMob, believes the conclusion for Steve, Robin, Nancy, and Jonathan in Stranger Things was well done. However, she feels Eddie Munson deserved to be included in that final moment, and she may have gotten emotional while writing about it.
Stranger Things: The Finale is now streaming on Netflix.
