‘Stranger Things’ Finale Adds New Theater Locations as Ticket Demand Explodes

The last episodes of Stranger Things are becoming a big event for fans, and the screenings are expanding rapidly. Originally planned as a small gathering for dedicated viewers, the release is now happening in hundreds of theaters because of overwhelming demand.

Originally, when the event was announced in late October, organizers planned to screen the series finale in over 350 movie theaters throughout the U.S. and Canada.

The film will be shown in theaters on December 31st and January 1st. When ticket reservations began in early December, showings were already planned for over 500 locations, and that number has continued to grow. Now, the film will be playing in more than 620 theaters.

The creators of the show, the Duffer Brothers, announced on Instagram that the response to the finale screenings has been huge. Ross Duffer shared that over 1.1 million people have already signed up, and more than 3,500 showtimes at over 620 theaters are sold out for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Even though many showings have been completely full, tickets are still available in a few cities, including Los Angeles. These remaining screenings are filling up quickly. The final movie isn’t just playing at big theater chains like AMC, Regal, and Cinemark; you can also find it at Harkins, Megaplex, Cineplex, Alamo, Landmark, and Marcus Theatres.

Earlier this month, Deadline reported that these viewings aren’t typical movie ticket purchases. Instead of buying tickets, fans are reserving seats due to complications with television agreements and payments to those involved in the production.

At AMC, the $20 reservation fee acts like a credit you can use for snacks and drinks. Because of this, traditional ticket sales numbers won’t be available. We’ll be using attendance figures to measure how well the event does.

People watching the show live in theaters won’t be included in the viewing numbers on Netflix. However, Stranger Things 5 is still predicted to be a huge hit and one of the most popular English-language shows on the streaming service.

The Duffer Brothers are planning to watch the series finale in a theater, just like the fans. Ross Duffer mentioned online, “It’s amazing to finish this ten-year story together. We might even see some of you in Los Angeles!”
