Timothée Chalamet Breaks Christmas Box Office Records With Latest Hit

Timothée Chalamet continues to be a major draw at the Christmas box office. For the third year in a row, his films are leading ticket sales, beginning with the 2023 hit “Wonka” and continuing with the 2024 release, a Bob Dylan biopic.

“Marty Supreme,” the director’s new and energetic table tennis movie, brought in $27 million during the recent four-day holiday weekend, as reported by Comscore.

According to Paul Dergarabedian, a leading movie market analyst at Comscore, Timothée Chalamet consistently stars in successful films released during the crucial holiday movie season. His talent for selecting strong projects and working with the right people has established him as a true movie star and a reliable box office success.

The new movie “Marty Supreme” opened at number three in North America, bringing in $17 million over the weekend. It followed “Avatar: Fire and Ash” ($64 million) and “Zootopia 2” ($20 million). Distributor A24 reported this was the second-highest opening weekend the company has seen, following the $25 million debut of Alex Garland’s “Civil War.”

The movie, which cost $70 million to make, has already earned $28.3 million after a small initial release. Experts predict it will continue to be popular thanks to good reviews and people talking positively about it. It currently has a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a CinemaScore of “B+”.

Josh Safdie’s film, “Marty Supreme,” tells the story of Marty Mauser and his ambition to win at table tennis. David A. Gross, from Franchise Entertainment Research, believes the film’s unique approach – a period sports drama – will be successful, thanks to Timothée Chalamet’s performance and its release during a good time for moviegoing.

Timothée Chalamet’s films have done well during the holidays before. “Wonka” opened with $39 million and ultimately made $218 million in the US and Canada, while “A Complete Unknown” started with $11.6 million and earned $75 million domestically. Both movies saw a boost in ticket sales during the popular Christmas-to-New Year’s moviegoing window.
