Billie Lourd, whose mother was the beloved Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher, recently shared a touching tribute. On December 27th – the ninth anniversary of Fisher’s passing – Lourd posted a photo on Instagram featuring her parents and her own children, reflecting on her mother’s enduring legacy.

Lourd shared that she feels her mother’s presence in her children. She wrote about waking up to her kids hugging her and telling them how much their grandmother would have adored them.

She explained that the happiness her children brought her was all thanks to her mother, even though she was no longer with them. She felt her mother’s presence in the lives of her children, who wouldn’t be here without her. Lourd also shared that her grief came in waves, changing throughout the day.

Since her marriage to Austen Rydell, Billie Lourd has had two children: a son born in 2020 and a daughter in 2022. She often remembers and celebrates her mother, Carrie Fisher, and loves seeing her children connect with their father. Lourd ended her message by expressing how much she will always miss her mother.

Carrie Fisher died on December 27, 2016, at age 60, after being hospitalized at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. She had a medical emergency a few days before while flying from London to Los Angeles. Although emergency crews tried to revive her with CPR and she was put on a ventilator, she sadly passed away.

The investigation into her death showed she had several health issues that contributed, including a heart attack, difficulty breathing during sleep, and blocked arteries.

Tests revealed the presence of drugs like cocaine, heroin, and MDMA in her system, but it wasn’t clear how much they contributed to her death. Billie Lourd has publicly discussed her mother’s long-term battle with addiction and mental health issues, and shared that her mother would have wanted her death to inspire others to talk openly about their own challenges.

Carrie Fisher was famous for being open and funny about her life and career. She once joked, in her 2008 book Wishful Drinking, that she wanted people to say she died “drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra.” Even after her passing, she continues to inspire people with her honesty, wit, and lasting influence.
