Okay, so it looks like we can officially say goodbye to Jon Snow. Kit Harington himself just confirmed in a Variety interview that he’s done with the character and the Game of Thrones universe. He was pretty definitive about it, which is a bit sad, but at least we have closure. As a huge fan, I was secretly hoping for a return, but it sounds like that’s not happening.
Kit Harington has firmly stated he has no interest in revisiting his famous role, even for projects like audiobooks or spin-offs. When asked about the possibility, he replied, “No, absolutely not. I don’t want to go anywhere near that again. I did that for ten years, and I’m happy to move on.”
Kit Harington became famous for playing Jon Snow in HBO’s Game of Thrones. Throughout the show’s eight seasons, viewers watched his character transform from a naive young man at Winterfell into a central player in the battle for power in Westeros.
Jon Snow faced political schemes, heartbreaking losses, and huge battles against the White Walkers, making him a truly unforgettable character on television. Kit Harington’s acting was highly acclaimed and established him as a key star of the series.
In June 2022, HBO revealed plans for a sequel series starring Jon Snow. Kit Harington was set to return as the character, and George R.R. Martin, the author of the original series, was also going to be involved in the project.
The planned spin-off series, previously called Snow, was going to continue Jon Snow’s story after the events of the original show. However, Kit Harington announced in April 2024 that the project was canceled because the writers couldn’t come up with a compelling storyline.
It’s understandable why Harington is hesitant, even if fans are upset. After playing such an iconic character for ten years, he needs space to try different roles and avoid being constantly compared to Jon Snow.
