STRANGER THINGS Final Four Episodes Runtimes Confirmed

The holidays mean different things to everyone – a chance to relax, spend time with family (whether that’s easy or complicated!), or maybe just escape into a good book. But apparently, they’re also when people watch incredibly long episodes of Stranger Things. The final four episodes are surprisingly lengthy – totaling more time than a cross-country flight! We first saw the episode runtimes reported by Variety, and we were definitely surprised. Just a heads-up: these episodes will be released on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, so make sure you set aside enough time if you plan to watch!

The first four episodes of Stranger Things 5 each ran for just over an hour, totaling four hours and 31 minutes. However, the final four episodes are even longer.

  • Episode 5: “Shock Jock” – 1:08
  • Episode 6: “Escape from Camazotz” – 1:15
  • Episode 7: “The Bridge” – 1:06
  • Episode 8: “The Rightside Up” – 2:08

The final two episodes of Stranger Things 5 will total five hours and 37 minutes in runtime. To put that in perspective, that’s only slightly longer than a five-hour and 20-minute flight from Los Angeles to New York City. Specifically, Christmas Day’s episode is three hours and 29 minutes long, and the New Year’s episode runs for two hours and eight minutes.

I keep mentioning the episode length because it feels like we’re being asked to invest a huge amount of time – over ten hours per season – in a show that’s really run its course. Especially during the holidays, it needs to be a worthwhile ending. I’ve already put so much time into it, so I hope it pays off, you know? It’s that ‘already invested, so I have to finish’ feeling.

We’ll find out soon if the conclusion of the story lives up to the journey. You can revisit our first part coverage here. The second part of Stranger Things 5 will be available this Thursday, December 25th, with the final episode arriving on December 31st.
