Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY Trailer FINALLY Sets Sail

After the massive success of Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan had the creative freedom to tackle any project he chose. He decided to make a grand, sweeping adaptation of The Odyssey, filming it with innovative new IMAX film technology in locations around the globe. The initial trailer suggests this ambitious production will be both visually stunning and a worthwhile investment for Universal Pictures, truly capturing the scale of the original story.

The first trailer for The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon as the legendary King Odysseus, begins with his famous Trojan Horse strategy. We see how it leads to victory for Agamemnon (played by Benny Safdie). The trailer then flashes back to Odysseus telling his wife, Penelope (Anne Hathaway), that he may not return home, and shows her in the present day with their son, Telemachus (Tom Holland). However, the trailer primarily focuses on Odysseus’ difficult and violent journey back home, including a confrontation with the giant cyclops, Polyphemus.

Similar to the lengthy voyage of Odysseus, this trailer is just one milestone on the path to seeing The Odyssey on the big screen. The movie is still being made, and won’t arrive in theaters until next summer. Starring Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron, Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s classic poem will premiere on July 17, 2026 – millennia after the original story was first told.

Look, a long journey is one thing, but honestly? It doesn’t even begin to compare to the epic trek Odysseus had just to get back to his family. We’re talking about a whole different level of patience-testing here, folks.
