The film Predator: Badlands is now expected to lose around $80 million, making it a larger box office failure than initially anticipated, as fewer and fewer people are going to see it in theaters.
I’m really bummed to see how badly this movie is doing. At first, they thought it would lose around $60 million, but now it looks like it’s going to be much worse. It’s not doing well in the US, and people overseas aren’t really going to see it either. It’s a total flop!

Box office drops off a cliff in weekend seven
The film Predator: Badlands continued to struggle at the box office this weekend, earning only $213,000 – a significant drop of 78.3%. It also lost about 70% of the theaters showing it, indicating cinemas are no longer interested in screening the movie.
At this point, the domestic box office is effectively finished.
Tallies now sit at:
- Domestic: $90,611,711 (49.4%)
- International: $92,858,529 (50.6%)
- Worldwide: $183,470,240
The film’s earnings are significantly lower than the approximately $262 million needed to cover its production, marketing, and distribution costs, meaning it didn’t make enough to avoid a loss.

International audiences didn’t save it
Disney probably expected strong international sales to offset weaker performance in the US, but that didn’t quite work out. Box office numbers from other countries were only slightly better than those in the US, and there wasn’t a significant increase in ticket sales from important international markets.
Since people are quickly losing interest, the movie isn’t likely to significantly increase its total earnings.

Losses now nearing $80 million
With its current worldwide earnings and estimated costs, Predator: Badlands is now expected to lose around $80 million in theaters. This is a much larger loss than originally predicted, confirming the film is a box office failure.
Merchandising and downstream revenue won’t come close to offsetting that gap.

Aliens vs. Predator crossover likely dead
The movie’s poor performance likely means we won’t see any more “Aliens vs. Predator” films, ending a franchise that was once highly anticipated.
Since Predator: Badlands hasn’t done well, Disney is unlikely to invest in a big-screen crossover event featuring the Predator franchise.
There’s also no current talk of a sequel.

Predator likely headed back to streaming
It seems Disney is leaning towards releasing any future Predator movies directly on streaming, rather than in cinemas.
Releasing a smaller, less expensive film would reduce potential losses, especially after audiences didn’t respond well to Predator: Badlands.
For now, Predator: Badlands looks like the end of the road for the franchise on the big screen.

Fake hype can’t save Predator
The spread of misleading memes by different sources clearly didn’t improve things. Also, Aliens vs Predator remains the most financially successful Predator movie, earning more than $305 million in today’s money.
As a huge fan, I remember how massive the original Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger was back in 1987! It made over $280 million when adjusted for today’s money, which completely overshadows Badlands. And domestically, it raked in a whopping $170.793 million (in today’s dollars) – that’s double what Badlands earned! It really shows how much of a cultural impact that movie had.
