Brainiac is confirmed to appear in the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. James Gunn had hinted at this previously, and now it’s official. This classic Superman villain will be the main antagonist of the movie, even uniting Lex Luthor and Superman against him. James Gunn has announced that Lars Eidinger will play Brainiac in the DCU.
James Gunn announced Lars Eidinger will play Brainiac in the upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, stating Eidinger was the clear choice after a global search. Gunn previously described the movie as a story where Lex Luthor and Superman must team up to face a larger threat, emphasizing it will explore both characters’ stories equally. Now, with Eidinger cast, it’s also shaping up to be a significant film for Brainiac as well.
Lars Eidinger will be playing Brainiac in the new DC Universe film, Man of Tomorrow, and his role could take several different paths. Brainiac is one of Superman’s biggest enemies, and while he’s been portrayed as both an alien and artificial intelligence, he’s always incredibly intelligent. More recently, Brainiac has been reimagined as a creation of Krypton, actually built by Superman’s father, Jor-El – essentially making him a dark counterpart to the hero. It’s unclear exactly how James Gunn will use Brainiac in the film, but it sounds like he might emphasize the Kryptonian connection, potentially turning Superman: Man of Tomorrow into a story about Superman’s family. There’s even a chance we could see Superboy (Conner Kent) introduced to the DCU in this movie.
Lars Eidinger, who will play Brainiac, isn’t very well known to American audiences. The German actor has appeared in films like Clouds of Sils Maria, Persian Lessons, Personal Shopper, and Home for the Weekend. However, if James Gunn chose him for the role of Brainiac in the DCU, he must be a talented actor.
I’m so excited to hear that Lars Eidinger is going to be playing Brainiac in the new Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow! I’ve been following the DCU news closely, and I can’t wait to see his take on the character when the film finally comes out on July 9, 2027. It feels like a long wait, but I’m already counting down the days!
