10 Best Christmas Movies on Starz (Ranked by IMDb Score)

It’s impossible to watch too many Christmas movies, particularly during the holiday season! With so many streaming services available, finding both great and not-so-great Christmas films is now easier than ever. This article will specifically look at the Christmas movies available on Starz.

Here are the ten best Christmas movies available on Starz, listed from lowest to highest IMDb rating. There’s something for everyone – comedies, romances, and even action movies – so you’re sure to find a great choice for you and your family.

10. A Belle For Christmas (2014)

IMDb rating: 4.7/10

This story follows a brother and sister who desperately want a puppy for Christmas. Their wish comes true when they receive a sweet, rescued puppy named Belle. But their happiness is quickly threatened when their widowed father’s new girlfriend takes Belle on Christmas Eve. The children, along with their friends, embark on an adventure to bring Belle home.

While the story is basic and not perfect, this is a cozy family comedy with an undeniably cute element: a fluffy, white Christmas puppy! Sometimes, that’s all you need for a feel-good movie.

9. Deck the Halls (2006)

IMDb rating: 5/10

The story centers around Steve Finch, a content optometrist enjoying a peaceful family life filled with cherished Christmas traditions. His world is turned upside down when the chaotic and unconventional Hall family moves in next door. The Halls are the opposite of the Finches – they’re often dishonest, unpredictable, and don’t seem to worry much about what others think.

The trouble begins when Buddy decorates his house with so many Christmas lights, it’s incredibly bright – he’s determined to make it visible from space! While Buddy and his neighbor compete to have the best decorations, their families surprisingly start to connect. Will this rivalry spoil the holiday, or will their differences ultimately unite everyone?

Okay, so the IMDb score isn’t great, but honestly, I didn’t think this movie was that bad. Matthew Broderick is solid, but Danny DeVito? The man’s a treasure! The whole ‘annoying neighbors’ thing is a bit overdone, I’ll admit, but there are genuinely funny moments – stuff the whole family can laugh at. It’s not going to become a new Christmas tradition, but it’s definitely in the holiday spirit and worth a watch.

8. Buttons (2018)

IMDb rating: 5.3/10

This heartwarming story follows two young girls in an orphanage who dream of finding a loving family for Christmas. Luckily, their guardian angels are listening and work behind the scenes to help make their wish come true, teaching them that believing in miracles can make them a reality.

Honestly, I think this movie is underrated. It’s not the greatest musical ever made, but it’s a genuinely charming story that I enjoyed. What really grabbed me was hearing Kate Winslet and Robert Redford narrate – they added a lot! If the voice acting had been just a little stronger overall, I think it would be a much more highly-rated film.

7. Happy Christmas (2014)

IMDb rating: 5.4/10

This story follows Jenny, a young woman who’s a bit lost in life. After a difficult breakup, she moves in with her brother, Jeff, and his wife, Kelly, a writer. Initially, Jenny and Kelly clash, but Jenny’s carefree attitude eventually inspires Kelly to make positive changes in both her personal life and her writing career.

I enjoyed watching “Happy Christmas” because it shows that people are often more than they appear, and it’s important not to judge them quickly. Both Jenny and Kelly learn this lesson as they get to know each other while living together, even though their relationship starts off rough. The film highlights that everyone has something to teach us.

Also, there’s Anna Kendrick and Melanie Lynskey, so fun and comedy are basically guaranteed.

6. All Is Bright (2013)

IMDb rating: 5.6/10

Dennis has just been released from prison on parole and finds himself hesitantly agreeing to a quick-money plan with a man named Rene: selling Christmas trees. Adding to the complications, Rene had an affair with Dennis’ wife while he was incarcerated. They’ll need to find a way to cooperate if they hope to turn a profit and get their lives back on track.

Even though the story isn’t perfectly smooth, Paul Giamatti and Paul Rudd have great on-screen chemistry. It’s a fun buddy comedy that’s sure to bring a few laughs.

5. Jingle All The Way (1996)

IMDb rating: 5.7/10

This story follows Howard, a workaholic who has become disconnected from his family and often misses important moments. He realizes he needs to prioritize what truly matters and makes a determined effort to fulfill a promise to his son: getting him the incredibly popular Turbo Man action figure for Christmas.

He forgets to get a gift again, and when he rushes out on Christmas Eve, all the stores have already sold out. This starts a chaotic quest to find a Turbo Man action figure and make Christmas right for his family.

If you’re in the mood for a comedy, this movie delivers, especially thanks to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s unique accent. While it’s a beloved holiday classic, it’s delightfully ridiculous from start to finish. It playfully pokes fun at consumer culture, but don’t expect to feel bad for Schwarzenegger’s character – he’s intentionally over-the-top!

4. The Family Stone (2005)

IMDb rating: 6.3/10

The movie follows Everett Stone as he brings his reserved girlfriend, Meredith, home for Christmas. Meredith struggles to connect with Everett’s lively and unconventional family, but finds an ally in his brother, Ben, who understands and supports her.

Meredith and Ben are connecting, and Everett doesn’t appear bothered by it, so Meredith reaches out to her friend Julia for advice. Unexpectedly, Julia and Everett start to feel a connection themselves. Will everyone find happiness? Will love and acceptance win out?

The movie features a charming cast, including Sarah Jessica Parker, and has some genuinely funny moments. While the storyline involving the brothers swapping girlfriends felt a little strange, it ultimately works out for the best – it’s all about love, after all!

3. Scrooged (1988)

IMDb rating: 6.9/10

The story centers around Francis Cross, a harsh and unpleasant television executive known for his cynical behavior. He’s consistently disrespectful to those around him, particularly his assistants, even going so far as to fire someone on Christmas Eve over a disagreement. He also stubbornly refuses to visit his brother each Christmas, despite yearly invitations.

These events lead to the classic visit from the three Christmas ghosts, who help Frank rediscover the true meaning of Christmas.

You’ve probably seen many versions of A Christmas Carol, but this one offers a fresh, modern take on the familiar story. Instead of Ebenezer Scrooge, a different character gets a similar wake-up call. Bill Murray is hilarious as usual, and the updated story is sure to entertain the whole family.

2. The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017)

IMDb rating: 7/10

In the mid-1800s, Charles Dickens was struggling with writer’s block and facing financial difficulties. His family’s debts were piling up, so he decided to quickly write a Christmas story, giving himself just two months to finish it.

Things get even more complicated when Charles’s distant parents arrive, causing him to remember a difficult childhood marked by his father’s poor financial decisions. Ultimately, this leads him to write A Christmas Carol, a story that would become a beloved and enduring Christmas tradition.

Okay, so I just finished watching this and you have to see it! The cast is incredible – Dan Stevens, Christopher Plummer, Morfydd Clark… everyone is fantastic. It’s definitely a feel-good Christmas movie, but it’s not what you’d expect. Instead of retelling A Christmas Carol, it actually tells the story of Charles Dickens writing it! It’s all about how he came up with the idea and the whole creative process, which I found really fascinating.

This movie is a standout for me – it’s creative, hilarious, heartwarming, and just a really great film.

1. Die Hard (1988)

IMDb rating: 8.2/10

The movie follows John McClane, a New York City police officer, who must single-handedly rescue his separated wife and several other people taken hostage by terrorists inside the Nakatomi Plaza skyscraper during a Christmas party.

Let’s be honest, we couldn’t create a Christmas movie list without including Die Hard! While it’s definitely an action-packed thriller with guns and explosions, it takes place during a Christmas party with Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman. For many, that’s enough to make it a true Christmas classic.

I won’t even try to explain why you should watch Die Hard – if you haven’t seen it, seriously, what have you been doing? And if you have seen it, you already know how good it is, which means it’s perfect for a re-watch.
