The early 2020s have been a turbulent time, and 2025 was no exception. Luckily, we had movies and TV shows to help us disconnect from everything. It’s getting harder to use social media for genuine connection, though. These days, it often feels like everyone is either trying to become an influencer or getting into political fights. Plus, we’re constantly bombarded with low-quality content, especially from AI. In fact, Merriam-Webster named ‘slop’ its Word of the Year for 2025 – a pretty accurate choice, considering everything!
I’m really concerned about what’s happening with AI-generated content. It seems like there’s just a flood of low-quality stuff online – they’re calling it ‘slop,’ and honestly, it’s everywhere. It’s even starting to show up in the shows and movies I love, with these obviously fake AI actors and terribly done credits. It’s just frustrating because it feels like it’s taking opportunities away from real artists and creators who’ve spent years honing their skills. It’s a real shame.
Unfortunately, online negativity is here to stay, and Merriam-Webster recognized that by selecting an appropriate Word of the Year.
