A recent trademark filing for “Wolverine” has sparked rumors that Marvel Studios might be working on a solo Wolverine movie, apart from the larger X-Men project they’ve announced.
Someone noticed a new trademark filing with the U.S. government. Marvel Characters, Inc. has applied to trademark the name “WOLVERINE” for use in movies, TV shows, and other entertainment media.

Wolverine Trademark Filed by Marvel
The application to register the trademark was submitted on December 12, 2025, and specifically protects the making and sharing of movies and TV shows.
Just because a company files a trademark doesn’t mean a project is definitely happening, but it’s a common way to secure a name before making a public announcement.
The announcement quickly gained attention because Marvel is currently focusing on mutants and also releasing its Avengers: Doomsday series.

Separate Wolverine and X-Men Movies?
So, I’ve been hearing whispers that when Marvel finally brings the X-Men into the MCU proper, Wolverine might not be one of the first guys they roll out with the main team. Apparently, he won’t be a core member right off the bat, which is a little surprising, honestly.
This new trademark filing has increased rumors that Marvel is developing separate movies or TV series focused on the X-Men and Wolverine, continuing the approach Fox used with these characters.
This strategy would let Marvel continue to feature Wolverine as a popular character on his own, while also building the X-Men as a team. Later on, they could then include Wolverine with the rest of the X-Men.

Kevin Feige Wants Hugh Jackman to Stay
There’s been a lot of talk in the industry that Kevin Feige is eager to continue working with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, particularly after the huge popularity of Deadpool & Wolverine.
This trademark filing supports the idea that Marvel wants to keep the option of using Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of the character, even as they introduce new stories about mutants.
Rumors have also said Feige wants Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine vs Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.

Henry Cavill Wolverine Talks Resurface
Okay, so I’m hearing some really interesting stuff! Apparently, Henry Cavill has been in conversations with Marvel about maybe, just maybe, taking on the role of Wolverine in their movies. It’s still just rumors at this point, but as a huge movie fan, I’m definitely excited by the possibility!
I’ve been hearing more about this, and another source is saying Henry Cavill actually had meetings with Marvel after filming wrapped on Deadpool & Wolverine. It seems like things are really heating up about his potential move!

MCU’s X-Men
Rumors suggest the X-Men could be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) sooner than expected. Actress Sadie Sink is reportedly cast as Jean Grey in the upcoming movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
As a huge cinema fan, I’m incredibly excited about Avengers: Doomsday! It’s going to be amazing that they’re including the X-Men from the Fox universe – Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, and even Channing Tatum are all set to appear. And to top it off, I’ve heard the music from Doomsday has somehow leaked online, which is a bit of a spoiler but also super intriguing!
Feige has said the new age of mutants will kick off following Secret Wars.
