I’m so excited to hear there’s a new season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters coming! The first season on Apple TV was amazing – a really cool mix of giant monsters and a mystery that jumped between different time periods. We know a bit about what’s next with Godzilla and Kong teaming up, but I’ve always been curious about what Colonel Lee Shaw was up to before we met him as the older version played by Kurt Russell – when Wyatt Russell was playing him! Good news: Legendary and Apple TV are giving us those answers! Wyatt Russell is going to star in and help produce a spin-off series, and Joby Harold is going to be the showrunner. I can’t wait!
Okay, so I just heard some awesome news! Apple is making a series about Lee Shaw – you know, the character from Kong: Skull Island – and it’s going to add to that Monsterverse we all love. Apparently, it’s a Cold War story where Shaw is sent on a super-secret mission to stop the Soviets from unleashing a massive new Titan that could wipe out the U.S.! Seriously cool. And get this – John Russell, who played Shaw, is already familiar with this kind of stuff, having been involved with Monarch and working as U.S. Agent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It sounds like he’s perfect for clandestine monster hunting!
Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures executive produce the new prequel series, along with Wyatt Russell, Chris Black, Kyle Bradstreet, Alex Boden, and Max Borenstein, and director Andy Goddard. Kei Banno, Brian Rogers, and Kenji Okuhira also produce. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce for Toho Co., Ltd., the company that owns Godzilla. Toho licensed the rights to Legendary for “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” as part of their ongoing partnership with the film series.

Since its release worldwide, viewers have really enjoyed Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. According to Morgan Wandell, Apple TV’s head of international development, they’re excited to share the new stories Joby and the whole team have created. With Joby leading the way and Legendary as partners, this new series will expand the Monsterverse, bringing fans closer to the Titans and delivering compelling character-focused narratives.
Harold expressed his excitement about contributing to this famous and beloved universe. He praised Apple and Legendary as fantastic collaborators, and promised they will continue to present these classic characters to audiences with the respect they deserve.
According to Jason Clodfelter, head of Legendary Television, Joby is an incredibly talented storyteller who truly understands what fans love about the Monsterverse. They’re excited to work with him and his production company, Safehouse Pictures, in a bigger way, partnering with Apple to launch a new chapter for the franchise.
We’re looking forward to seeing how the story of giant monsters and Cold War tensions unfolds. Until then, we’ll have to wait for season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which will be released on February 27, 2026.
