‘The Housemaid’ Starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney Earns Strong Debut on Rotten Tomatoes

I’m really excited about this new thriller, The Housemaid, coming out on December 19th! It’s based on Freida McFadden’s popular 2022 novel, and it’s being directed by Paul Feig with a script by Rebecca Sonnenshine. I’ve heard a lot of buzz about it, and I can’t wait to see how they’ve brought the story to life.

The series features Sydney Sweeney as Millie Calloway, a young woman escaping a difficult history, and Amanda Seyfried as Nina Winchester, the woman who brings her on as a live-in maid for her family.

The series centers on Millie, who quickly discovers unsettling secrets while adjusting to life with the Winchester family. Brandon Sklenar plays Andrew Winchester, Michele Morrone is Enzo the groundskeeper, and Elizabeth Perkins portrays Andrew’s mother, Evelyn. Indiana Elle, Mark Grossman, Hannah Cruz, Megan Ferguson, and Ellen Tamaki also star in supporting roles.

Rotten Tomatoes reports a 75% Tomatometer score based on 36 reviews.

Reviewers have particularly praised Amanda Seyfried’s acting, saying she adds a lot of dramatic power to the movie, especially in her scenes.

Reviewers say the movie blends romance, mystery, and thrills, telling a story full of secrets, lies, and manipulation. While the film generally holds viewers’ attention, some critics felt scenes without Amanda Seyfried weren’t quite as powerful.

Despite a few accidental moments of humor, The Housemaid tries so hard to be shocking that it ultimately loses sight of its own purpose.
