After almost three decades with PlayStation, Brian Fleming, co-founder of Sucker Punch Productions – the team behind the recent game Ghost of Tsushima – is stepping down and handing leadership of the studio to a new generation.
Brian Fleming Hands Over Studio Leadership
After helping establish Sucker Punch as a reliable and successful PlayStation Studios developer, Fleming revealed he’s spent the last year collaborating with Sony to guarantee a seamless handover of his responsibilities.
He’s been instrumental in developing popular game series like Sly Cooper, inFAMOUS, Ghost of Tsushima, and his latest project, Ghost of Yōtei.

New Studio Heads Announced
Starting January 1st, Jason Connell and Adrian Bentley will become the new heads of the studio.
Connell, who helps lead the creative direction of the Ghost games, has been key in shaping Sucker Punch’s signature style of storytelling and visuals.
As a critic who’s been following this studio closely, I’m hearing some interesting news about their leadership. Bentley, the tech wizard behind those impressively vast game worlds, is staying on to manage all the engineering and production that makes it happen. And thankfully, Nate Fox will continue as co-creative director, which is a huge relief – his vision is key to what makes these games special.

Transition Comes After a Rocky Period
The leadership change comes at a notable moment for the studio.
While inspired by the success of Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei didn’t achieve the same level of popularity or commercial success. It also didn’t win any awards at the recent Game Awards, and faced some public backlash after a developer made comments about political commentator Charlie Kirk.
Although Sony and Sucker Punch haven’t said the change in leadership is related to recent challenges, the timing is raising questions about what the studio will focus on next.

Looking Ahead for Sucker Punch
Sucker Punch has been a PlayStation Studios team since 2000, and they continue to focus on creating games with compelling characters and a cinematic feel.
With Connell and Bentley now leading the studio, they’re building on the creative foundation laid by Fleming while also looking ahead to the future.
