Steven Spielberg’s latest film, a sci-fi thriller called Disclosure Day, will be released in U.S. theaters on June 12, 2026. Spielberg developed the story, and David Koepp, a longtime collaborator, wrote the screenplay. The movie centers around the intriguing question: “If we discovered life beyond Earth, would it scare us?” Universal Pictures will handle distribution, and it will be available in IMAX.
I’m really excited about the cast they’ve assembled for Disclosure Day! Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor are leading the film, and they’re joined by some incredible actors – Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes, just to name a few. There’s also Michael Gaston, Elliot Villar, and Noah Robbins adding to the ensemble. I read that Josh O’Connor and Henry Lloyd-Hughes were actually offered their roles without even needing to audition – that’s a testament to how much confidence the director has in them!
Filming started shortly after the movie was announced in April 2024. Spielberg came up with the idea for a story centered around UFOs, and Koepp was brought in to write the screenplay. Universal Pictures secured the rights to distribute the film by May 2024. Actors were cast over several months, with Emily Blunt officially joining the project in August 2024, followed by other key cast members through December. Paul Tazewell, who previously worked with Spielberg on the 2021 film West Side Story, is designing the costumes.

As a huge movie buff, I’m really excited about Disclosure Day. From what I’ve heard, it’s going to be a fantastic mix of suspense and sci-fi, and it sounds like Spielberg is bringing his classic storytelling style to it. It’s definitely one of the summer releases I’m most looking forward to, especially because I love a good science fiction thriller with a UFO twist!
