Los Angeles Times columnist Lorraine Ali hosted the event, which can be viewed on The Envelope’s website and social media. The discussion gives fans an inside look at how these actresses navigate their careers and remain authentic.
Jennifer Lopez had a standout year, taking the lead role in the musical drama Kiss of the Spider Woman, directed by Bill Condon. The film, based on the popular Broadway show, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and critics especially praised Lopez’s performance. This was her first time starring in a full-length musical movie. In addition, Lopez celebrated her 56th birthday by releasing a new song called Birthday.
Emily Blunt has been working on several projects. She recently starred in the sports drama The Smashing Machine as the girlfriend of MMA fighter Mark Kerr, a role that earned her a Golden Globe nomination and positive reviews. Coming up, she’ll be in a new science fiction movie directed by Steven Spielberg, and she’s set to return as Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is planned for release in 2026.
Elle Fanning is expanding her work into several creative areas, including movies, video games, and music. She appeared as a character and contributed to the soundtrack for the game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Fanning also starred in the drama Sentimental Value, which will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival, and in the science fiction film Predator: Badlands. She’s also set to play Effie Trinket in the new Hunger Games prequel movie.
Sydney Sweeney both starred as and produced the film Christy, a biographical movie about boxer Christy Martin. While critics generally liked the film, it didn’t perform well in theaters. Sweeney shared that she’s incredibly proud of the project, emphasizing that they created it to make a difference, not just to achieve high viewership numbers.
Gwyneth Paltrow is joining Timothée Chalamet in a new movie called Marty Supreme, a drama centered around the sport of table tennis. The film is directed by Josh Safdie and is expected to be released shortly.
Tessa Thompson not only starred in the movie Hedda, but also helped produce it. The film is based on the famous play Hedda Gabler and debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival, where Thompson’s acting and her work with director Nia DaCosta were highly acclaimed. She’s been nominated for several awards for her performance.
The Envelope Roundtable featured insightful conversations with leading actresses, offering a look at the ups and downs of their careers. It showed how they handle being in the public eye while pursuing challenging and varied roles.
