Rob Reiner, Director of ‘When Harry Met Sally…’, Found Dead Alongside His Wife

Rob Reiner, the acclaimed director and actor behind beloved films such as “When Harry Met Sally…,” “This Is Spinal Tap,” and “A Few Good Men,” passed away at his home in Brentwood on Sunday at the age of 78. He was found alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, who was 68.

Police are investigating two deaths as a homicide. Investigators believe the victims were stabbed. Firefighters were called to the home around 3:30 p.m. to provide medical assistance.

Firefighters discovered a man and woman deceased inside the home. They were later identified as Rob and Michele Reiner, according to reports.

After the news was made public, the Reiner family shared a statement expressing their deep sadness over the unexpected deaths of Michele and Rob Reiner. They asked for privacy as they grieve this incredibly painful loss.

Police haven’t made any arrests yet. Several sources close to the family have told news organizations that the couple was killed by their son, Nick Reiner, but police haven’t confirmed this. According to the LAPD, 32-year-old Nick is alive and is currently being questioned.

Rob Reiner, son of the famous Carl Reiner, first gained popularity playing Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the TV show “All in the Family.” He was on the show for nine seasons and won two Emmy Awards for his comedic performance, once in 1974 and again in 1978.

Before becoming a director, Rob Reiner honed his skills as a writer for popular TV shows like “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,” “Happy Days,” and “All in the Family.” He gained recognition as a filmmaker in 1984 with “This Is Spinal Tap,” a hilarious fake documentary about a made-up heavy metal band that later became a beloved cult classic.

Over the following years, Rob Reiner directed a series of well-known and successful films, including classics like “Stand By Me,” “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally…,” “Misery,” and “A Few Good Men.” He was known for his ability to skillfully work across different genres, from comedies and dramas to fantasy and thrillers.

Rob Reiner co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment in 1987. The company went on to produce a number of popular movies, some of which Reiner himself directed. In 1993, Castle Rock was sold to Turner Broadcasting.

As his career progressed, Reiner continued directing films, though they weren’t as commercially successful as his earlier work. One notable later project was the 2007 film, “The Bucket List.” In a 2008 interview with The Guardian, he described his filmmaking philosophy, stating, “I’m making the movies I want to make.” He explained that studios prioritize huge profits, which are difficult to achieve with smaller films, but that his motivation was always artistic expression. “I came into this business to express myself and tell stories, not just churn out a product,” he said.

I always admired how involved Reiner was, not just in entertainment, but in things he believed in politically. He was a big supporter of the Democratic party and wasn’t afraid to speak out, especially against Donald Trump. I even remember hearing he thought about running for governor of California back in 2006, but ultimately decided against it.

Police are still investigating the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner. They plan to share more details as soon as they can.
