The world of The Big Bang Theory is expanding! Despite the original series ending a few years ago, the franchise continues with a new spin-off. HBO Max has shared a first look at the upcoming comedy, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, as part of its 2026 preview.
The new series focuses on Stuart Bloom, once again played by Kevin Sussman. HBO Max says the show begins with Stuart accidentally damaging a device built by Sheldon and Leonard.
A simple error causes a massive ripple effect, cracking open the multiverse and threatening the fabric of reality. The story follows a comic book shop owner who must clean up the disaster he accidentally unleashed, all while navigating the resulting mayhem.
Stuart won’t be facing this new challenge by himself. He’ll be joined by returning favorites Denise, Bert, and Barry Kripke, as well as Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie reprising their roles. The show will also feature alternate versions of characters familiar to longtime viewers, though HBO Max is keeping the rest of the cast a secret for now.
This new show is the third series related to The Big Bang Theory, joining Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. However, while those shows looked into the past, this one continues the story into the future. Production started in late 2025, and it’s being produced by Warner Bros. Television, the studio that made the original series.
While the initial trailer doesn’t give away much about the story, it does confirm the show will explore the multiverse and offers a sneak peek at what’s to come. The trailer was released with other previews of upcoming HBO Max shows in 2026, such as Euphoria, House of the Dragon, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
I’m really excited for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, and HBO Max has said it’s coming next year, so I’m hoping to see it sometime in 2026. They haven’t given a specific date yet, but just knowing it’s planned for next year is good enough for now!
