HBO has shared a first look at season three of House of the Dragon, offering fans a preview of the new episodes.
The new season of the fantasy drama, based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series, is scheduled to arrive in mid-2026. It will have eight episodes and tell the story of the Targaryen family, drawing from Martin’s book ‘Fire & Blood’.
Ryan Condal is back as the head of the show for season three, overseeing both the story and the making of the episodes. The new season was filmed in Los Angeles between March and October.
Several directors—Clare Kilner, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Andrij Parekh, and Loni Peristere—directed different episodes. The writing was a collaborative effort by Condal, Sara Hess, Ti Mikkel, David Hancock, and Philippa Goslett.

The new season brings back familiar faces like Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen and Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen. You’ll also see Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, and Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole.
The series will feature a new generation of Targaryens, played by actors including Harry Collett, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, and Phia Saban, who will explore the ongoing complexities of the Targaryen family. We’ll also meet new characters like Larys Strong, Jason and Tyland Lannister, Hugh Hammer, and Alyn of Hull, among others.
Season three dives right into the complex world of politics, with the Targaryens and their supporters battling for power and dealing with personal issues. Viewers can look forward to more of what they loved about the show – dragons, shocking betrayals, and large-scale battles.
The third season of House of the Dragon, set to debut in 2026, will continue the show’s compelling and detailed storytelling that viewers have enjoyed.
