Kitao Sakurai is directing the film, and Dalan Musson wrote the screenplay. This movie is a complete restart of the live-action series inspired by the Capcom video game franchise.
The film features a diverse cast, including Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, Joe Anoa’i (known as Roman Reigns), David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Andrew Schulz, Eric André, Vidyut Jammwal, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Jason Momoa.
Development on the movie began in April 2023 when Legendary Entertainment acquired the rights. Capcom is also involved in producing the film. Initially, Danny and Michael Philippou were set to direct, but they later stepped away from the project.
Sakurai took over as director, and the search for actors began earlier this year. By summer, the complete cast was set, and filming happened between August and November.
Paramount Pictures plans to release the movie in the United States on October 16, 2026.
The film takes place in 1993 and follows Ryu and Ken as they rejoin the fighting circuit thanks to Chun-Li, who invites them to compete in the World Warrior Tournament. Paramount Pictures reveals that the tournament is more than it seems, concealing a significant threat. They’ve teased the stakes with the warning: “And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”
