It’s clear Geoff Keighley intentionally saved the stunning mountain scenery for last in The Game Awards trailer. Though the show had some good announcements, the huge excitement surrounding The Elder Scrolls 6 may have left some viewers feeling a bit disappointed. Games like Divinity, Control: Resonant, Mega Man: Dual Override, and Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic were all exciting, but many fans were hoping for a truly massive reveal.
Fans were initially thrilled when Keigley began teasing a new game with a dramatic backdrop of mountains, hoping it was The Elder Scrolls 6. The presence of Todd Howard only fueled the anticipation. However, their excitement quickly faded as Keigley described what the game actually was.
Fans Thought The Highguard Trailer Was Elder Scrolls 6

Honestly, those mountains have been taunting us for seven years now! Bethesda showed them in that Highguard trailer ages ago, and we haven’t heard a peep about Elder Scrolls 6 since. So when I saw Keigley standing in front of them, I actually gasped – I was so hoping for a surprise trailer for the next game! It really got my hopes up.
It ended up being a player-versus-player shooting game, which was disappointing. It initially looked good, but the excitement quickly faded. While I don’t want to criticize the game itself, I’m puzzled why it was chosen as the last trailer at The Game Awards. Something like Divinity or Mega Man: Dual Override would have felt like a better fit.
It’s possible the reaction was just chance, or maybe Geoff Keighley was deliberately teasing the audience, but fans didn’t seem very impressed. We can’t expect a show-stopping moment like the God of War reveal every year, but it might have been smarter to save one of the biggest announcements for last. As for The Elder Scrolls 6, we’re still waiting for news.
