A New Look at Peaky Blinders Movie ‘The Immortal Man’ Revealed

The popular series Peaky Blinders is continuing as a feature-length film, titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

Tom Harper directed the film, and Steven Knight, who created the original series, wrote the screenplay. Recently, Empire magazine released a new preview, offering fans another glimpse of the upcoming movie.

This film picks up where the popular TV series, which aired from 2013 to 2022, left off. Cillian Murphy reprises his role as Thomas Shelby, and he’s joined by returning cast members including Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck, and Stephen Graham.

The film is adding Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Jay Lycurgo, and Barry Keoghan to its cast. It will be released in some cinemas on March 6, 2026, and will then be available to stream on Netflix starting March 20, 2026.

According to Knight and the film’s actors, the movie begins several years after the end of the TV series, with Tommy Shelby’s departure. The story is set in 1940, during World War II, as Birmingham endures heavy bombing during the Blitz.

After working on the series for so long, Knight wants this film to provide a satisfying conclusion to this chapter of the story. He explained to Empire that he hopes it feels like the final pages of a book, bringing everything to a close while also hinting at future possibilities.

Knight didn’t reveal the specific reason Tommy Shelby returns to Birmingham, but suggested it was due to unavoidable events. Murphy also discussed revisiting the role after Tommy’s ambiguous departure in the show’s finale.

He really admired how the scene of the man riding away on horseback was left open-ended – we don’t know where he went, but it felt right that he returned to his Romani roots. He thought placing him within the context of World War II created a beautifully layered and memorable moment in the story.
