New Mortal Kombat II Images Spotlight Jade, Kitana, and Director Simon McQuoid

Warner Bros. just shared a fresh set of official photos from Mortal Kombat II, offering fans a detailed preview of the characters who will be competing in the sequel’s intense fighting tournament.

New photos reveal Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and director Simon McQuoid back at work on the upcoming movie. These images are adding to the excitement for the film’s release in IMAX theaters on May 8, 2026.

First Look at Jade

Tati Gabrielle, known for her roles in Netflix’s You and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, plays Jade – a confident and skilled fighter armed with a bo staff. The scene takes place in a lush, overgrown jungle, and Jade looks prepared for battle.

Jade, a strong and devoted warrior from Outworld who has often been connected to Kitana’s storyline in the games, is appearing in live-action for the first time in this new movie. Early looks suggest she’ll be a particularly impressive character.

Kitana Strikes

I was really blown away by the new picture of Adeline Rudolph as Kitana! She looks incredible, holding her fan and totally prepared for a fight – just like the character should. As a fan of both her work in Resident Evil and Riverdale, I can’t wait to see her take on this role!

As a huge fan, I have to say the actress playing Kitana totally nails the look of the classic warrior from the games! And from what I’ve heard, she’s going to be a really important character in the next movie, which I’m so excited about.

Screenwriter Jeremy Slater has revealed that the story of Mortal Kombat II will largely focus on Kitana and Johnny Cage, with their emotional journeys being central to the plot.

Director Simon McQuoid Returns

I stumbled across a fascinating behind-the-scenes shot today – director Simon McQuoid deep in conversation with one of the actors, who was still in costume and wearing a hood on set. It really gives you a little peek at the creative process!

So, the director of the 2021 film is back for the sequel, and let me tell you, they’re swinging for the fences this time! It’s a much bigger movie, with a seriously boosted budget. They’re promising a real summer blockbuster experience – think more action, deeper stories for the characters, and a lot more of the world we already love. Basically, they’re going all-out to expand on everything that made the first one fun.

Release Update

The movie was initially planned for release in October 2025, but the date has been moved forward. It will now premiere in theaters and IMAX on May 8, 2026, and will begin rolling out internationally on May 6.
