All Sci-Fi Movies and Shows You Can Stream This Week at Home or Watch in Theaters, Including ‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’

Fans of science fiction and other genres have plenty to look forward to the week of December 9th. New movies are hitting theaters, and major streaming services are adding fresh content. Expect everything from fun animated stories set in space to intense, realistic dramas. Here’s a guide to the must-see titles coming to theaters and streaming platforms.

‘Resurrection’ (2025)

Starting December 12th, Janus Films will release this thought-provoking film in select theaters. Set in the future, the story examines the complicated relationship between technology and what it means to be human, particularly when facing death. It raises important questions about the ethics of scientific advancements that could potentially overcome mortality. For viewers looking for something different than typical action movies, this film offers a more intellectual and philosophical experience.

‘Scarlet’ (2025)

I’m really excited for this new movie coming out December 12th! Sony Pictures is releasing it everywhere, and from what I’ve heard, it’s going to be visually stunning with incredible effects and non-stop action. It follows a main character trying to survive in a world that’s changed a lot because of technology and is full of conflict. They’ve really built out this huge, detailed world, and it seems like the story is going to be super intense – it’s definitely aiming to be a big event for sci-fi fans, and it looks like a must-see in theaters this week!

‘Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures’ (2023–2025)

This week, Disney+ is releasing new episodes of an animated series set in the Star Wars High Republic era, designed for younger viewers. The show follows Kai Brightstar and his friends as they train to become Jedi under Master Yoda. Families can enjoy watching these episodes as the young Jedi learn important lessons and explore the galaxy. It’s a fun and exciting way for kids to discover the world of the Jedi and the Force, with plenty of action and positive messages. This series is a great starting point for children new to the Star Wars universe.

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ (2023–2025)

A new installment of the series arrives on Disney+ this week. Percy Jackson, along with his friends Annabeth and Grover, encounters exciting new mythical challenges that blend ancient magic with the modern world. Viewers can look forward to scenes and storylines that stay true to the original books as the demigods embark on dangerous quests. The story expands on the world of Camp Half-Blood and increases the pressure on its young heroes. This release remains a key part of Disney+’s fantasy and adventure lineup.

‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ (2024–2025)

Okay, as a huge fan of action and adventure, I’m really excited about the new Lara Croft series on Netflix! It’s awesome that they’re adding to the animated library with this installment. Basically, Lara’s back, and this time the story cleverly connects different parts of the Tomb Raider timeline – which is a cool move. You can watch her explore amazing places, solve puzzles, and, of course, kick some serious bad guy butt. What I’m hearing is they’re really focusing on developing Lara as a character, but don’t worry, it still has all the thrilling action sequences we expect from Tomb Raider. It’s a bit more grown-up and gritty, which I think is a great direction for the character’s story.

Share your thoughts on which of these new releases you are most excited to watch in the comments.
