Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies have not only brought Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel back into the spotlight, but have also made elements like spice, the planet Arrakis, and the Kwisatz Haderach well-known in popular culture. Now, a new book, Dune: The Storyboards – Imagining the Dune Movies, will give fans a unique look at how Villeneuve visualized and developed the films based on the novel and its sequel.
Legendary Comics and Rocketship Entertainment are launching a Kickstarter campaign to offer fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Dune films with Dune: The Storyboards – Imagining the Dune Movies. This book will showcase hundreds of storyboard illustrations by Sam Hudecki, detailing how both Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two came to life. And, since director Denis Villeneuve plans to continue the story, the book will also include concept art from his upcoming adaptation of Dune: Messiah.
Written by film expert Simon Ward (author of books on Alien: Covenant and Kong: Skull Island), this book offers fans a behind-the-scenes look at how director Denis Villeneuve brought Frank Herbert’s Dune to life. Dune: The Storyboards will showcase the development process, from intimate character scenes to the film’s large-scale action.

According to Robert Napton, publisher of Legendary Comics, Denis Villeneuve carefully plans every shot in his films, and Sam Hudecki skillfully brings those plans to life as storyboards. Napton expressed excitement about showcasing their collaboration in this book, and believes Simon Ward is the perfect author to tell their story.
A new book called Dune: The Storyboards – Imagining the Dune Movies will be released in stores around early 2027. You can pre-order it now on Kickstarter and receive a copy that won’t be available anywhere else. The first 500 pre-orders will receive a special Portfolio Edition, which includes a unique slipcase, a special hardcover, three art prints by Sam Hudecki, and a set of collectible pins.

The great thing about wearing pins inspired by this book is you won’t need to explain the references – you can simply share the story behind the project! The Kickstarter campaign for Dune: The Storyboards is now active.
