As a huge fan of ‘Event Horizon‘, I’m thrilled to hear they’re continuing the story in a brand new comic series! It picks up decades after the original, amazing 1997 film, which is fantastic news for anyone who loved that movie.
According to Collider, the comic book sequel, Event Horizon: Inferno, will launch in 2026. It will take place 200 years after the events of the original spaceship horror story.
Christian Ward, who also wrote the comic book Event Horizon: Dark Descent, is the writer for this series.
In a recent interview with Collider, director Howard Ward expressed his enthusiasm for the success of Event Horizon: Dark Descent and announced the next installment, Event Horizon: Inferno. He always believed the game would resonate with the dedicated Event Horizon fanbase, who have been eager for more content for years. He was surprised by the game’s popularity and is now excited to expand the story beyond the original film, exploring what happened after the movie’s ending. Dark Descent revealed the events leading up to the film, and Inferno will continue the narrative from there.
Ward also welcomed new artist Rob Carey, saying he was exactly what the project needed to vividly tell the story. He explained, “While Dark Descent evoked the feel of the movie Alien, Inferno will be more like Aliens – expect even more science fiction, thrills, and terrifying encounters with otherworldly forces. The depths of hell hold countless demons, and we’ve only scratched the surface.”
The 1997 science fiction horror film Event Horizon, directed by Paul Anderson, stars Sam Neill, Laurence Fishburne, and Kathleen Quinlan. The movie centers around a rescue crew sent to investigate the spaceship Event Horizon, which suddenly reappears after being lost for seven years.
Despite not being a financial success in theaters – it made $42 million against a $60 million budget – the film gained a strong following on DVD and Blu-ray. It’s now considered a cult classic and has had a significant impact on the science fiction horror genre.
For years, people have talked about making more content based on the film Event Horizon, like prequels, sequels, or even a TV show. In 2019, Paramount Television and Amazon Studios officially announced a series, with Adam Wingard set to direct and produce it.
In March 2024, Wingard shared that a new project is actively being developed, mentioning they have a fantastic script. He explained that once his current film is finished, his priority will be getting this new project moving forward.
This new comic series lets fans revisit the frightening world of Event Horizon while they wait for any potential sequels or TV shows. Based on what the creator has said and the story details, it looks like this continuation will be even more intense and scary, with plenty of demons, cosmic horror, and sci-fi thrills.
