‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Drops Final Trailer Before Premiere

HBO has just dropped the final trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the new prequel to Game of Thrones. The show is based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg and tells the story of Ser Duncan the Tall (known as Dunk) and his young apprentice, Aegon Targaryen (called Egg), as they go on adventures together.

Ira Parker and George R. R. Martin created the show, which features Peter Claffey as Dunk and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg.

The show also stars Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as the puppeteer Tanselle from Dorne, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen. Set centuries before Game of Thrones, the series tells the story of House Targaryen’s beginnings and the world of Westeros, as seen through the adventures of a wandering knight and his apprentice.

Get ready to venture beyond King’s Landing! A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a brand new series in the world of Game of Thrones created by George R.R. Martin, arrives January 18th, exclusively on HBO Max.

Filming for the first season started in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in June 2024 and finished in September. HBO has announced the six-episode season will debut on January 18, 2026, on both HBO and HBO Max. Before the first season even airs, HBO has already confirmed a second season is planned for 2027.

I was so excited when HBO first gave us a hint of the series on August 4th, 2024, showing it off as part of their new lineup! Then, in November 2024, they dropped a short “first look” teaser, and even revealed the official poster on October 6th. It felt like they were slowly building the anticipation, and it totally worked!
