The hugely popular sci-fi comedy Men in Black premiered in 1997 and helped launch Will Smith to even greater stardom. He played J, a confident New York City police officer recruited into a top-secret organization that deals with aliens. Alongside the iconic Tommy Lee Jones, who portrayed the experienced and thoughtful Agent K, Smith starred in a film that became a massive hit and spawned three sequels. While Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson led the most recent installment, a new Men in Black sequel is currently in development, penned by Chris Brenner, the writer behind Bad Boys for Life.
Details about the story and who will star in the next Men in Black movie are currently unknown, but Will Smith might return. Deadline reports that writer David Brenner, who previously worked with Smith on Bad Boys, is planning to finish the script and see if Smith is interested in reprising his role as Agent J.
It will be fascinating to see if Will Smith returns as Agent J. His character arc in Men in Black III concluded nicely with the revelation that K had eliminated him as a child after his father’s death. Currently, Will Smith appears to be enjoying a break from acting and only taking on projects he’s truly passionate about – he has the financial freedom to be selective. However, a compelling script could potentially bring him back to the role.
I just wanted to share that amazing first conversation between K and J where they really started to discuss what it means to be human. It’s a great scene!
