Vin Diesel to Write, Produce, and Star in ROCK ‘EM SOCK ‘EM ROBOTS

It seems simple enough – a movie about robots battling it out, like a sci-fi sports film with engaging actors. After all, Real Steel managed it back in 2011. However, getting a Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots movie made has proven difficult. Vin Diesel signed on to star and produce way back in 2021, but the project stalled. Now, according to Deadline, Diesel is taking matters into his own hands, adding writing to his already extensive list of roles on the film.

Robbie Brenner, head of Mattel Studios and the movie’s producer, praised Vin as a talented storyteller who excels at action, emotion, and creating immersive worlds. She said his vision for the Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots movie is imaginative, focuses on relatable characters, and feels like a big-screen experience – exactly the type of story Mattel Studios aims to create.

Vin Diesel shared his enthusiasm for bringing a beloved toy from his childhood—Hot Wheels—to a new generation. He explained that the story will explore themes of competition, strength, and ultimately, the importance of compassion.

Mattel is counting on its live-action Masters of the Universe movie, starring Nicholas Galitzine, to perform well next summer. Following the success of the Barbie film, He-Man has become one of Mattel’s most recognizable brands. The company also has several other movies in development, including films based on Matchbox, Polly Pocket, and the recently announced View-Master. These are just a few of the many projects Mattel has planned. Beyond these, Mattel owns the rights to popular franchises like Thomas the Tank Engine, Barney the Dinosaur, and Magic 8 Ball.

Mattel also owns Street Sharks, and we all know Vin Diesel knows all about those.
