The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is preparing for an epic ending. Netflix has announced that the last episode, called “The Rightside Up,” will be a full 2 hours and 5 minutes long – making it one of the longest episodes ever produced for the show. This extended length suggests the finale will be a dramatic and conclusive showdown in Hawkins.
Stranger Things 5 finale gets a 125-minute runtime
The final episode will debut worldwide on Netflix at 5 p.m. Pacific Time on December 31st. Fans in the US and Canada can also see it in over 500 movie theaters starting the same day, with screenings continuing through January 1, 2026, offering a chance to experience the finale on a large screen.
The latest season began in the fall of 1987, with the town of Hawkins still recovering from the damage caused by the Rifts. The heroes are working together to find and defeat Vecna, but he’s disappeared, and no one knows where he is or what he’s planning. Meanwhile, the government has taken control of Hawkins, placing it under strict military quarantine and increasing their efforts to find Eleven, forcing her to go back into hiding.

The season’s schedule is spread across key festive dates to build excitement.
- The first four episodes began streaming on November 26.
- Three more episodes will arrive on December 25.
- The finale drops on December 31.
Netflix announced the last episode will be released on their service and also shown in select theaters for a short time, allowing fans to watch it together in a cinema setting.

They even called it ‘bitchin’ – seriously, bitchin! I’m already planning my outfit!
The concluding season features the return of series regulars like Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, and many others from the main cast. Joining them are new actors Alex Breaux, Jake Connelly, Nell Fisher, and Linda Hamilton.
